Hi everyone sorry I left this a lot been going on. (Not with the car)

Thanks for all the messages.

I’ve literally just spoken to the manager and apparently it’s trying to start and they will have someone working on it tomorrow and believe it will start.

He believes it’s the tappets and seen it many years ago in a 405 and the oil solidifies.

I will update as soon as!

I’m not a mechanic so have no idea if this is possible.

It sounds promising..

Well fingers crossed then! Hopefully they’ll get it sorted for you.

Oil solidifies??? I doubt there's anything wrong with the hydraulic lifters.

Hi all!

I hope you’re all well Smile

Sorry for the long delay but had a lot going on and nothing to report until today! Shizer magnet me!

Soooooo today I’ve got it back! Haven’t seen it since November 1st!

The head went off for flow testing etc and no issues. They have stuck with the hydraulic lifters story, saying they had this many years ago with another Peugeot. The manager who was there previously has done a disappearing act for quite some time or maybe he just avoided me in the end. I’ve actually been very easy if I’m honest had I not had so much going on and had time to think perhaps I’d have been more on it.

Sonic the 206 seems to be running well with no loss of power (not that I’ve opened it up properly yet) but it seems ok from what I’ve experienced tonight.

They gave me 20% off the entire bill and even fitted a new engine mount only mentioning it today.. FOC. Suspect perhaps I guess they didn’t want me taking it further.

For the record work carried out:

Cambelt & water pump
Full clutch kit
Front wishbones
& engine mount

Head was fine and it was apparently hydraulic lifters.

Total was £1395 in the end.

It was a strange drive home perhaps I’m too used to new cars and how soft they are but it reminded me of my old Saxo. Quite raw but engaging. We went to b&q & Homebase looking at garden furniture and I did have to look back in the car park which I never do anymore… so yeah I’m still in love with it!

Here’s a pic on the drive from the iPhone just to prove it’s real I reckon it’s a dream and tomorrow I’ll wake up and it will be back at Halfords lol

I also got my 206 RC model which il post pics up of soon perhaps next to the car lol!

I’m glad to have my car back!

Well that was short lived.

Today I had to drop the car back to Halfords.

It sounded a bit tappy on collection but was advised by a stand in manager to give it a drive for a week and it should stop.

Nope, sounds like a tractor. Also, it started dumping water on my drive. I also found a bolt near the engine mount that they had changed hadn't even been tightened up literally nearly all the way out!

I think it's safe to say Halfords auto center at Harlow have very poor QC. I've never dealt with anything like this before,
To this day I don't believe they have told the truth throughout and I doubt I will ever really know what they've done to this car.

On the day I collected it I had to get them to tighten a screw to the wheel liner as it was completely undone - I was told they reckon it unscrews itself lol!!!!!! FFS. They're liable and have offered to look at it so what can I do? I have to give them a chance to make good before I take this further.

I said to the manager today - how many other nuts bolts / screws aren't in properly? They will apparently look at it all. I'm not an a**e I just want my car back running as it should and I really feel they have zero passion for what they do and no respect for peoples possessions.

Absolute disaster.

If they don't put it right this time I will escalate to their head office and seek advice.

Sounds more like no QC than poor QC - I hope they get it sorted and actually do everything right.
What an absolute nightmare they are causing! Massive shame, clearly they must have little to no clue what they are doing!

Car certainly has the lookbackability factor:) Wishing all the best of luck fighting the Halfrauds!

Update there is no update.

They've had the car since the 21st.

I have sent an email out to 'resolutionexpert@halfords.co.uk'

It's getting close to needing another years MOT, road tax & insurance which I pay up front. It's an absolute liberty I haven't used the car for more than a few casual drives to the shops since November last year.

I'm not sure what else I can do at this stage but I did mention in my email that I won't accept the car back sounding like a tractor and that I will be forced to seek advise if it's not running correctly the next time I pick it up.

It's a Peugeot 206 what can possibly be so difficult...

I hope it all works out in the end. I'm sure this has well and truly put you off going to halfords for any work being done in the future. I personally wouldn't even trust them to do anything on a car. The situation you are in is unacceptable by Halfords and you need to keep pestering them and take the matter further if you need you.

Wishing you all the best and you get to be back in your beautiful ride Smile

That's unreal, I really hope they get this dealt with - and considering the insane timescale and lack of decent workmanship they should really be doing everything free of charge - surely this is breaking some consumer rights or something!

Still nothing only that my complaint has been forwarded to the manager (who I have not had luck with) but also the regional manager in charge of this branch.

They gave me 20% off the last bill but still cost 1300+, not fussed if the work was carried out to a good standard and the car worked but that's not been the case. It's been an absolute s**te show.

I'm absolutely gutted I used them, it was only out of desperation at the time as Peugeot couldn't carry out the works when agreed and I was going away!

I will update as soon as I hear from them, hopefully it will be some good news! I'm not holding my breath.

Cheers guys.

Mate this is savage especially when I know just how much seat and blood you've put into this motor over the years.

I know what you mean about the weird drive lol, drove my brother's red 180 the other week and it was so weird, I'm used to a 300mm steering wheel and not the size of the factory wheel plus the gear changes are so different.

Been thinking of getting another as my 207 is needing about £2k worth of engine work done and car is probably only worth around £3.5k

Hi Matty how goes it?

Definitely weird to drive now lol. The gear changes are so far and sloppy. Pedal position is also terrible I've got reasonably big feet and I don't remember it being that close! Seats are still good, it definitely feels it's age though coming from newer vehicles. It reminds me of my old Saxo VTS tin can. It feels raw despite the creature comforts.

For the very few errand runs I used it for it was fun I will say. I'm unsure whether or not it will stay very long likewise the ST. This experience with the 206 has highlighted to me it's only going to get older and harder to get original parts and people act like they're working on a Bugatti around here no idea 180s exist.

Shame to hear about your 207, what does it need? I'm not familiar with them, same engine as used in the mini IIRC? I would say do it on the 206, but can you live with it now?

The prices are going up looking at fleebay. If you was to, but I can't see them making any life changing amounts any time soon!

Not my first choice in color but check this out;

collectingcars.com/for...eot-206-rc

Richard Burns - 180, Silver only 5 KM on clocks WINNING BID £11,251

Wonder how much difference the color made. If that was blue I'd have gone to 15 and kept it in storage.
