#2: Re: paint Author: stevedude, Location: aldershotPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:24 pm ---- use enamel, its good enough for mountain bikes
#3: Re: paint Author: Dillon, Location: KentPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:29 pm ---- I was going to say hammerite if your using a brush finish should look ok.
#6: Re: paint Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:45 pm ---- I guess enamel is the type of paint to use and if you do use hammerite you won't need primer as you can paint it straight onto rust for sure.
#7: Re: paint Author: stevedude, Location: aldershotPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:45 pm ---- if ya gonna use hammer, ya will need to do a couple of coats, BUT it will have to be recoated in 3 hours, or it could look like ya fingers look like after being in bath too long!
use spray enamel, so easy, and give a nice glossy coat lol, it comes in orange too
#8: Re: paint Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:46 pm ---- Just use Hammerite direct to rust one, you shouldn't need primer.
no its a type of paint, pop to halfords they have loads.
if not got ya colour look online, will need priming first thou, but thats not hard
#10: Re: paint Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:48 pm ---- ok that sounds sweat, i might just stick with hammerite then as i think halford do stock them?
#11: Re: paint Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:51 pm ---- do i have to use thinner with hammerite?
#12: Re: paint Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:53 pm ---- Nah, just straight out of the pot
About a fiver, for the last pot i bought
#13: Re: paint Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:54 pm ---- Halfords do stock them yes, around £7-8 for a smaller tin. What do you mean about thinners? It would be wise to clean the surface before painting yes.
ya will if ya gonna clean up spills and ya brush, OR ya can buy cheap brushes and bin them between coats, ya could even just leave used brush in plain water to stop air getting to it, and wring it out on old rag when ya use it next, i always do that with gloss and other solvent based paints
oh buy some disposable gloves too, much easyer than trying to wash it off ya hands

ya need to get some bigger brush too. only got some tiny one for touch up at home.
got plenty of gloves and cleaning solvent in my lab so don't have to buy them.
