#1: how to change front spring . help , please/thanks lol Author: smackhead, Location: GBPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:41 pm ---- well front spring snapped in half on my 206 1.9d 5dr and i got a quote for 100 pund to fix it so i just went and bought a spring for 30 quid and save money , abs broke and a boy i know said he change it but the new spring looks just a bit big i think unless its only new and no pressure on it (i mean like width ) it has the same amount of coils but then someone said to me to check the chasis number to see if it matches up but then another boy said it didnt matter about that , so just stick it in
and on sticking it in you just remove the wheel the take the thing of at the top underneath the hood and the you have the stick thing off it and change the spring and put it back on
sorry not to good with mechanicals lol
any advice would be good on this and greatly appreciated

#3: Re: how to change front spring . help , please/thanks lol Author: troy, Location: llanelliPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:49 pm ---- you need to remove the front leg completely and then compress the spring with springs compresors, then remove the top nut and the top mount will come off, the spring will slide of, then reverse in fitting the new spring. if in doubt id get someone who knows what theyre doing to do it as compressed springs can be slightly dangerous.
#4: Re: how to change front spring . help , please/thanks lol Author: Rustym, Location: Wasall, West MidsPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:49 pm ---- Id just take it to a garage mate. You dont seem to have much mechanical skills and "boys" say lots of things that tend to be rubbish. lol Also it all depends what car the spring came from and what car its going onto. It needs to be the same engine size or it will be no good as the different engine weights are accounted for by the springs so and odd spring will be......... well erm... deadly haha Find out what engine size your car is and what engine size the spring came from and take it to a garage to have fitted most places only charge around £25 a corner so have still saved a bit buying a second hand spring (assuming its the right spring)

My uncles a dental technician (makes false teeth, dentures etc etc) and he did some work for a dentist who had a guy with a spring go off in his face, he had a broken jaw on both sides and 4 teeth missin......
#6: Re: how to change front spring . help , please/thanks lol Author: 20619d, Location: barnstaplePosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:56 pm ---- i did mine on the 1.9d and i put gti 180 springs on it and they are fine. trust if no good with cars then take it to the garage in now here do sum bits but it was a s**t of a job. i was scared taken springs off.
#7: Re: how to change front spring . help , please/thanks lol Author: Rustym, Location: Wasall, West MidsPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:58 pm ---- Its fine if you change both the springs but he only wants to change one. If your changin both springs it doesnt matter about the car they came from it just may alter the ride height slightly if there not from the same car.

never change singulars as they'll sit completely different and often the stress that the new spring puts on the old one snaps the old one anyway.
and yeah get someone else to do it as a compressed spring is a horrific weapon when it gets loose if you dont know what your doing

my mate broke his nose when one slipped loose out of the compressors
i took springs out without compressors on a pug once

and well he had it inbetween his legs on the floor and a clamp slipped off and flew into....well im sure you can guess.
he just sort of crumpled on the floor i'm pretty certain he passed out as he didn't make a noise when he dropped :L

#14: Re: how to change front spring . help , please/thanks lol Author: jonnym92, Location: west cumbriaPosted: Mon Apr 18, 2011 1:59 pm ---- try changing springs with out compressors, thats when it gets intresting. seriously though they are lethal, we only did it because we were like 15 and couldnt legally drive for any so we risked it, luckily nothing happened but its always best to get someone who know what theyre doing, it might sound cheaper to do it your self but as i have found with cars this can lead to more probs and more money to spend
