Undo the castle nut and put the wheel back on, not fully tight but nip them up

Then smack the inside of the wheel with a block of wood and a hammer.

Or buy a drum puller

Sam.

when ever i used to remove the shoes i always undone the handbrake cable compensator as sometimes this gave it enough to grab and then because of the lip they end up wearing into the drum i just got a big hammer and really belted it all the way round stopping ever now and then to pull it to try and get it off.

as said before make sure to grind the lip off the drum when refitting them as it makes life so m uch easier later on Wink

I've made a drum puller out of bits of wood before (and a big bolt to push against the stub axle). It needs to be strong wood though! 18mm ply should do it.

I've had the same problem when the brake friction material separated from the shoe and jammed the brake on. Tried to knock it off with the handbrake slackened off but landed up cracking the lip off the edge of the drum. I had to cut the drum off with an angle grinder ! I cut the 'center' out with the bearing and wheel mounting so I could put the wheel back on to take it off the jack (for safety). Now off to the breakers for a 'new' drum.
