right then my 206 has been bad on petrol for a while i had a new manifold/cat fitted 20/12/2010 due to old one braking week after new middle pipe and back box all cheap parts not gen pug parts as the cost a bomb 2 week after then car was serviced still no change on the amont of fuel it was using shortly after engine management light came on when to have code read and it said CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD (BANK 1) code no p0420 the bloke in the garage said it was because it was a cheap cat and it needs replacing i then went to a pug specialist told him my story he said same cheap cat doesnt last long when i said its been on 4 weeks he said he has one car in that had one fitted 2 weeks ago and it was no good.i know the are two sensors one before cat and one after cat they both gave readings on the diagnostic machine but could these be the problem instead of cat.even thought both garages said its the cat the thing i carnt work out is that when new cat was fitted there was no change in the amount of petrol the car was using still same could the sensors be my problem
please help me my car is doing 120 miles to £30
any help is greatfull
thanks

#4: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: Dabamash, Location: The car in frontPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:07 pm ---- Plenty of people on here will shed some light on it when they find the thread.
I would suggest a faulty sensor, but it doesn't match the poor fuel consumption.
#5: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: porkie, Location: nottsPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:09 pm ---- so a faulty sensor wouldnt affect the fuel being used
#6: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: stevedude, Location: aldershotPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:11 pm ---- ya get a years warrenty on the cat, so go back and make em give ya a new one
#7: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: Dabamash, Location: The car in frontPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:12 pm ---- Not sure. I don't think the sensors have any influence on the fuel system. I'm useless when it comes to engines though, I know how they work, but that's about it.
#8: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: DJ-, Location: UKPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:15 pm ---- You're seem to be referring to the lambda sensors. My knowledge is not the best in this area but I know it takes the readings and I think if its dodgy it could cause your car to overfuel in which case could be using more fuel?

Yeah, lambdas. If the sensor is connected to the fuel system, then that's a good possibility.
Get it fault read and see if they can be a bit more specific.

Lambder, temp or map would cause the fueling to be off

the code reader said this when i took the car
CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD (BANK 1) code no p0420
#12: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: Dabamash, Location: The car in frontPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:26 pm ---- Downstream lambda probably needs replacing. Same happened to my 1.1.
Don't quote me on that though

#18: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: Spanerman, Location: Neath, South Wales.Posted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:36 pm ---- Petrol is getting quite expensive, so comparing milages to price is misleading.
Also you drive a underpowered sewing machine, which you have to floor to go anywhere at a decent pace.
Simples
#19: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: porkie, Location: nottsPosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:39 pm ---- i think iam going to swop the Lambder sensors to see if that sorts it

#21: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 3:58 pm ---- 1.1s drink fuel anyway, they can barely move the car as it is
#22: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: SDK206, Location: Earth, most of the time!!Posted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 4:18 pm ---- yes oxygen sensors do affect fuelling as yours has two, upstream and downstream it has whats called a closed loop system where by the ECU computes the readings and tries to adjust accordingly but if one goes down it will run "safe tables" to prevent much damage from overfuelling IE melting the CAT.
i would have checked by peugeot, generic codes are useful but not always accurate, theirs will be more accurate
hopefully whoever fitted the CAT didnt use exhaust paste upstream, seen that block them before
but as suggested already petrol is expensive, you can calculate MPG on torquecars.co.uk, all you need to know are miles covered, litres of fuel used and cost per litre and see what it says!!
#23: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: Matt, Posted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 4:36 pm ---- £30 for 120 miles isnt bad really
1.1s are notorious for being greedy
my 1.4 does 100 for £20
also dont forget, £30 now isnt the same as £30 a year ago. petrol prices have gone up alot so your not getting as many litres for your money.

#27: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: L18LTM, Location: ScunthorpePosted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 5:46 pm ---- Is the car making a '' popping noise '', can you smell petrol out the exhaust really bad ?, how hot is your car runnning ? if your temp is low, the ecu injects more fule in ?, my mates golf had his temp gauge behind his intercooler, basically blowing ice cold air onto the sensor and injecting fule wich wasn't needed, running to rich =\ im sure somone on here will contradict me ( as per usual ), but give it ago, happened on my old pug (: faulty thermostat
#28: Re: 206 drinking petrol and it only a 1.1 plz help Author: SDK206, Location: Earth, most of the time!!Posted: Thu Jan 27, 2011 5:55 pm ---- no contradiction needed, if the stat is stuck open it will run rich big time and use far more fuel than normal
