I took the bumper off to fit it and located the mounting holes in the chassis. There seems to be some sort of captive nut style fastening device that would normally fit into the chassis. I contacted my local Peugeot dealer who could only give the advice of "Don't know what you mean. The might come with a genuine bar" This wasn't much use. Has anyone else had the same problem, or does anyone know where I can buy the fittings from or any other solutions/ideas?

#2: Re: 206 Towbar fixings Author: purrjoe, Location: South CoastPosted: Mon Jan 31, 2011 8:45 am ---- Yes, I too had that problem when buying a secondhand bar - the cage nuts had been left behind in the donor car which had since been crushed. Could only get replacements if I bought a complete new towbar + kit !
What I did was to file open the oval hole that sits between the 2 tow bar fixing side bolt holes on the bottom of the chassis member on each side of the car so that it is just big enough to feed an open ended or ring spanner in and just reach both bolt holes. Elongate it both ends as little as possible and widen it only a very little. You'll need to buy 4 suitable HT nuts, bolts and washers to fit the bar.(Get 6/8 nuts just in case). Then attach the nut to the spanner with selotape, superglue or similar on the top area of the jaws of the spanner and gently feed the bolt through the hole and start it in the nut.
It's a bit fiddly but I did it fairly easily.
When you've done up all 4 nuts/bolts as tight as you possibly can, return to the hole you opened up and get the metal filings out with a suitable magnet. Then treat the edges of the hole with some anti-rust paint and very carefully make up an oversized black adhesive covers (Fablon or contact paper) so that it looks like a factory blanking cover. Check the nuts and bolts for tightness after you've used the car to pull the trailer.
It worked well for me and cost about £3, so good luck ! No MOT problems either.
