Unplug the fan connector & test for voltage at the plug
Not changing the pollen filter at service time doesnt do the fan much good.

I'll go with this one. I changed the pollen filter (which was filthy) just before lubing the fan. Possibly coincidence, but I trust MrBSIs' advice.
