basicly i want to know what ones i should go for?
i dont want to high lift as its a daily use car and i dont want to have to go through remap, but i want them to have the lumpy sound to them
also what make should i go for for cost effective but not cheap crap

It's duration you need to be worried about.

Then just fit some Piper Ultimate Road cams to your engine, will need some pockets machining into the pistons. With your standard inlet you'll get all the lumpyness you desire

lumpy idle is cause by the long duration of the camshaft and normally long duration camshaft are quite high lifting and need a remap to work well.

remaps will make the most of your mods its a dumb idea to avoid it

from what ive heard thats the best thing to do without going down the route of throttle bodies turbo or full rebuilds

it depends on what profile is the cam.
i know cat. has got some newcamshaft for pug engine which require no remap.

but they are just very mid sport cam only
to be honest if they dont require a remap there gunna be s**t, , no point modding and tuning if you dont do it right, there's a big difference from my old mapped gti to my standard gt and it had no other performance mods the standard map on a gti 138 is s**te bumpy torque line
