#1: another problem with my misses puma! overheating now! Author: charlie-52, Location: telfordPosted: Thu Feb 10, 2011 3:50 pm ---- its recently had a new cambelt water pump and a heater control valve, after fitting the hcv today the heaters were blowing hot air
but half a mile down the road the temp gauge went into the red, when opening the expansion tank the temp gauge drops back down to half way this happens over and over again
if i leave the car running with the cap off the expansion tank my heaters dont blow hot air and my temp gauge dosnt move
help me please

Running with the cap off only really works when your topping up the coolant.

i might be wrong but that's what i did with the 2.5 v6 ford i had, i was told to do it as it could be blocked. just be prepared for coolant to poor out the expansion bottle.all i did was wrap some towels around it so it would soak all the coolant up that spilled out.

wasnt interested in what the cause was, i got them to exchange for another car
... been told its running again , but not for resale as theyre running it around with no thermostat in anymore

There is a fault with the cooling system, most likely just needs bleeding
