#1: gutted Author: wull, Location: killin, scotlandPosted: Fri Feb 11, 2011 3:10 am ---- the gti needs to work and i'm going to have to sell it.it requires a complete rear axle and more importantly the offside rear wheel has excessive play, dangerously so it moves as if someone is steering it
the front end wasn't too bad with it just needing a ball joint and wheel bearing so it's getting sold.i was contemplating breaking it but i don't have the time and its a shame as it will be ideal for someone who can do the work themselves and save a few quid in comparison to a garage doing the work.
my missus is raging as she loved the car aswell, she's been driving a 1.2 8 v punto for the last 5 yrs and a 1.1 106 so she really appreciated the extra power and torque.i enjoyed the extra power aswell but i prefer to have a car that handles well and i never experienced that with the 206 because of the faults.....thats the only thing i'm gutted about.the torque was quite good though, driving along happily at 50/60 and you didn't even need to drop a gear to get past slower traffic.but when your in the punto or 106 you need to drop 2 gears get the momentum going and kiss your a**e good bye
my mother bought a new car so i now have the 106 which makes sense as it cost me nothing.
so the 206 gti is up for sale,i'll put it in the for sale section as soon as i can with pics.it's a steal for someone and it has 2 new front tyres just fitted.just over 99k but as above it needs a bit of work and ideally i wouldn't drive it too far.

#4: Re: gutted Author: wull, Location: killin, scotlandPosted: Fri Feb 18, 2011 2:42 pm ---- well i managed to sell the car today,i got what i paid for it so not all bad.
the missus wants another one so maybe after i save up a bit i might get another one later on in the year.so for the time being a crappy slow 1.1 pug 106 will have to do.

disc axle, abs, pre-plexed are not easy to find, and is not cheap.
drum axle is dirt cheap though.
in fact i saw one on ebay for 50 only
#6: Re: gutted Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:17 pm ---- Up to 200 max for the axle, and removing them from a car that's done 100k yourself is absolute b*****d
#7: Re: gutted Author: wull, Location: killin, scotlandPosted: Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:54 pm ---- thats what put me off.cheapest i could find on fleabay was about £300 delivered and the best one complete was £400 delivered but he was open to offers.i don't have the time to fart about changing this and that so it was definately a no go area for me.
