Been noticing a grinding noise from NSF of the car for a while now gradually getting worse, and today it got loads worse, so lazy me decided to have a quick look & noticed that the OSF pads have got loads of life left, yet the NSF pads look to be pretty much down to the metal.
Why is this? The car drives fine, doesnt pull to the side, brake as hard as you like & the car still stays straight, doesnt seem to be any rubbing (ie. calliper sticking)
im puzzled!
got my MOT in 3 weeks so hopefully if I stick the pads in close to the MOT they wont note me for uneven brake wear.. i hope!

Every time I change mine there is a fair bit left on one side when the others are to the metal. My mate is a mechanic and he seems to think its just because they are not handed.

You will find the NSF caliper is sticking OR in worse cases the flexi hose needs replacement, check the caliper first

Clean off an much rust and rubbish as possible. Make sure everything moves. Red rubber grease on the sliders and copper grease on the rest. Rebuild and make sure you pump your break before going for a drive.

Wrong greases to use.
Lithium grease on the sliders, and red rubber grease on piston seals.
Copper grease is abrasive do not use it on sliding parts!

I was told last week by friends in the trade they had been warned that copper grease can also attack the rubber seals etc used on brake calipers / cylinders.
