#1: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: GTIboyracer206, Location: Leeds.Posted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:17 pm ---- Hi there, bought a great looking 206 gti yesterday and in the space of 90 miles, its used just over 1/4 of a tank, is there a problem here or is the GTi just a natural fuel guzzler?
#2: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: Dabamash, Location: The car in frontPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:18 pm ---- That's about right I think. Depends on how you were driving it
#3: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: benb, Location: north devonPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:20 pm ---- tbh tht seems quite good considerig petrol prices
#4: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: GTIboyracer206, Location: Leeds.Posted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:26 pm ---- Ah right, Thought i had a problem with it at first. Driving home we were doing about 75-85 mph and thought the fuel consumption was abit steep to be honest but thanks for the reassurance.
#5: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: MutilateTheDead, Location: DerbyPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:28 pm ---- Mine does 60 miles on a tenner... if i dont nail it, your not driving it hard enough you've done well!!
#6: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: GTIboyracer206, Location: Leeds.Posted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:31 pm ---- Haha lol, this is the first 206 GTi i've ever owned and im actually taken'a'back on how fast it is, did a simple test yesterday been on the motorway in 5th at 70, put my foot down and 80 came up in 4-5 seconds maybe? shocked how fast really lol!
#7: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: MutilateTheDead, Location: DerbyPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:41 pm ---- thats what i was like at first, i went straight from a 1.1 litre saxo to a 2 litre 206 haha was awesome! now im alreay looking for ways to speed it up! you got a new filter for yours yet? chuck a ram air filter on it!! sounds mean! and pics??
#8: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:43 pm ---- A ram air filter will make it slower and less responsive
Get a panel filter
#9: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: GTIboyracer206, Location: Leeds.Posted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:48 pm ---- Deffinatly doing something to the induction, dont know yet weather or not to go for the panel filter or ram air filter, i want the car to be quick and sound quite mean, but like i said i dont want it slowed down neither. and also photo's are on my profile i think.
#10: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: MutilateTheDead, Location: DerbyPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 6:07 pm ---- As soon as i added the ram air filter is was more responsive?!?! Id keep it even if it lost me 10bhp, sounds meannnnnnnn
#11: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: huzzy4, Location: brockenhurstPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 6:54 pm ---- I hav a 1.4 and i get about 50-60 for a tenner. i dont even drive it badly and i don't hav any performance mods on it
#12: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: lofty, Location: Near ManchesterPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 7:07 pm ---- Panel filter NOT ram!
It won't add any bhp (maybe 1?) but, it will make the car feeel a tad more responsive. And if you clean it/oil it, the filter will last the cars lifetime.
#13: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 8:58 pm ---- A ram air intake will make the fuel run lean and slowly damage the engine

surely the ecu would correct any fuel differences? thats the point in fitting one?
#16: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: leigh_boy, Location: EastbournePosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 1:50 am ---- thats pretty good i get about 25 miles to 1 quarter of a tank

The ecu is more then smart enough to work out how much air is going in to the engine & to adjust the fuel mixture correctly.
#18: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: kieron, Location: in the housePosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 2:24 am ---- Thats about right with the current fuel increes
my 180 used to do about 80-90 miles on half a tank i dont think i even got to 200 on a fulll tank ever
#19: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: fg-mart, Location: BoltonPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 3:28 am ---- the 206 gti is no fuel guzzler. my last car 2.5v6 managed 12 miles to the gallon and was crippling me. then ive just purchased the 206 gti and i filled up with £20 and thats lasted me a week now with school runs and what not. i think you need to lay off the right pedal abit mate, have fun drive it smoothly and use the power when needed.

On light throttle or cruise the lambda sensor runs the engine so it will change the fuelling as required.
On acceleration or full throttle it uses the mapping which if not adjusted by a remap it won't be an ideal set up.
#21: Re: My GTi is a fuel guzzler, Problem? Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:04 am ---- i get about 200miles to a tank round town and 400miles to a tank on the motorway
as for induction y does everyone slate the kits and say get a pannel filter whats the point in a panel filter might as well not bother changing it at all imo
i have a viper induction kit and would recomend one little increase in throttle response and nice induction roar at about 2.5k revs

Haha lol :P, i was just driving it home sensibly to get a feel for the caer and was actually suprised at the fuel consumption lol.
