Apart from loss of power , mine still works and makes werid noise high revs but can hear another bad noise with it ?
Is it safe to drive and wot could it be ?
Im thinking a bearing .
Would it still be going fast if its going ?
It still pulls well though the same.

I checked if mine was running fine via a boost gauge make sure the boost was around what it should be.

You could also Check the pipes both sides to make sure there is no oil leaking out of the seals,

ive heard loadsa turbos on youtube that sound hell of alot worse , just saying still works same if i drive low revs cant hear it atall.

Getting pi**ed off with this car now and no way can afford new turbo. Crying or Very sad

if it was me I would personally keep using it till it get worse, could go on for ages yet potentially?

having said that im not sure of what damage is caused if your turbo falls apart when your doing 70 on the motorway?

im not a turbo expert lol

#11: Re: how can you tell when turbo is going ? Author: eddrj, Location: Berkshire PostPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 2:26 pm

yeah fu*k it i aint got no choice cant afford new car or turbo, so have to carry on then. Thats wot i was thinking might go on for ages the same. Is it because got it chipped to 115 bhp if i take box off would that help or not you think ?? Too much power ?

Then saying that really high milliage and i have no proof of any new turbo ever and its 2000 w reg.

Thats the other thing though doesnt happen in 5th gear really just high revs or lower gears so going 70 on motorway probably wouldnt notice it much.

Do you think would help taking box off or makes no difference ?

probably is just way over due new one probably nothing to do with that chip.

Yeah have seen loads alot worse ones so im thinking it will be ok for ages if i drive low revs its alrit cant hear it atall.

#14: Re: how can you tell when turbo is going ? Author: eddrj, Location: Berkshire PostPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 2:41 pm

Check the pipes sorry for being stupid i duno where it is lol i dont know about these things

Follow the pipe from the airbox you will reach the turbo, then pipe goes from turbo into engine. Remove the pipe and check for oil in them. (big black plastic pipe)

ok thanks , so hopefully will just be the pipe ? that wouldnt be much or hard to fix would it ?

#18: Re: how can you tell when turbo is going ? Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, Northamptonshire PostPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 3:01 pm

Could have a leak that would make a noise, but checking the pipes for oil is a good place to start, oil in the pipes might give you a good indication turbo maybe on its way out.

holy s**t thinking bout it when i changed the whole airbox that big pipe at bottom did have a split in it lol is that all it is ? how hard are these to change ? cheap job ?

#20: Re: how can you tell when turbo is going ? Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, Northamptonshire PostPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 3:07 pm

A split pipe would make a noise, I know it would as mine currently has a split in it now and makes a racket.
Mines cracked just befor turbo.

Take a look and if you can tape it up see if it helps. Get a new pipe when you can.

Ummm if its the same pipe we are both on about would be called air intake pipe I would think, there is one before and one after the turbo.

Some of those blown turbo videos Surprised

I thought my turbo was damages/worn but it's just a boos leak to the intercooler. Makes a bit of a whistle at idle.
