Hey people,
Just wondered if anybody knew where the rev sensor was located on a 1.4 lx 1999? Cheers. Joni

is this usually the issue for the rev counter on the speedo not working then ?.

Rev sensor? You mean crank sensor?
Or if the speedo has stopped working you might want to look at the speed sensor. Both are fitted to the gearbox.

cheers guys. Al get the sensors off and give them some WD40. See if that works! Joni

I don't think that will help.

What's the problem?

Ed is right.

Speedo (mph) is the sensor on the gearbox, revs (rpm) takes it off the crankshaft position sensor.
If there is no rev-counter action, its unlikely the crank sensor is gone or else the engine would not
run very well if at all.

WD40 will definately not help any of the two sensors.

Speed sensor back of gearbox
Rev sensor (crank sensor) between gearbox and engine Basicly 

Nope.
Crankshaft position sensor works by detecting a magnet positioned on the flywheel and has nothing to do with gearbox. The ECU then works out revs from this, as well as which cylinder to spark next, ignition timing etc.

.......so, at the end of the day, what is the main culprit when the rev counter doesnt work then ?

on a 206 GTI
the gearbox have a sensor called a REV sensor (technicaly its a crankshaft sensor but on the gearbox) , also any diagnostics systems will show as a REV sensor.

just like to point out its not the same as a 1.1 - 1.6 BLack sensor that goes on the gear box

Please also consider that any such sensor must be before even the clutch
otherwise it would give zero reading when the clutch pedal was pressed.
Now where its mounted on a 138/180 I don't know.
