#1: Broken Cam Belt....MORE... Author: steve6501, Location: SheffieldPosted: Thu Feb 17, 2011 10:16 am ---- My sons 1.1 Look has broken its cam belt (months ago) and I have now been able to get the Cylinder Head off and found thet all 4 exhaust valves have bent heads. The inlets are fine.
The guides all seem fine and the engine was just being started up when all this happened, so luckily the car was at home at the time. The belt had not snapped...just stripped its teeth.
I plan to get 4 new exhaust valves, a set of stem seals and refit.
Should I be aware of any other issues here?
Thanks

In my honest, just replace the engine costs less and by far easier to do
Good luck with whatever way though

Indents are ok to a certain degree

Nout worse than having a slight miss and not seating right. Then to burn out a valve and having 2 do the job again.

I have the engine in pieces now anyway...and no access to a crane!
I have fitted the valves in a drill stand and rotated then (no need for the exhausts...they are well gone) and they rotate true.
There are no indents are marks on the pistons...probably because the engine was on tick over at the time.
Thanks for the comments though

#7: Re: Broken Cam Belt Author: steve6501, Location: SheffieldPosted: Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:48 am ---- I have the Haynes book and it seems totally wrong...
To lock the cam it says use a 10mm bolt..... but max I can fit is a 7mm
To lock the crank it says 6mm bolt but max I can get in the hole is 4.5mm
The belt tensioner it shows using a square door handle spindle....but the actual fit on this is a 6mm hex ??
