#1: Is my car overheating? Author: Mike_XS, Location: SouthamptonPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:49 am ---- I was on the motorway on the very early hours of this morning for the first time in over a year. I stuck to pretty much 70...sometimes straying over a little bit...
Well, the temperature gauge was on the line between 90 and 140. Is this normal? It seems a bit high to me.
Cheers, Mike.

#3: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:03 am ---- my fan kicks in to keep it at about 90ish, check the fans comming in
#4: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: bellevuespares, Location: ManchesterPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:22 am ---- Should linger on 90...... Get it checked out before you do any damage!
#5: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: paulrushton, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:28 am ---- Mine rarely goes above 80 but it is a diesel so may have something to do with it.
#6: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:01 am ---- yeh i think it depends on what engine you have, i think the 1.4 TU engines run abit hotter than diesels so 80 for yours would make sense, the OP's temp seems kinda high though.
#7: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:04 am ---- Check your coolant.
Shouldn't really need the fan on the motorway as the air hitting the car should cool the engine enough.
#8: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: perry081064, Location: staffordshirePosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:05 am ---- my 1.4 auto used to be a steady 90 ( till it died )
my 2.0 HDI sits @ 70-75 on small runs , 80 @ most larger runs.

Your looking at the OIL temp gauge
The oil temp will go up if your doing high speed running as there's no oil cooler on an XS
Coolant temp gauge is at the bottom of the rev counter
#11: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:27 am ---- lol i think your right, my coolant guage doesnt have 140 written on it thinking about it
#12: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:29 am ---- Most people dont bother to RTFM or look at the symbols on the gauges.
The picture of a dipstick with an oil drip on it gives away its the oil temp gauge
The picture of a thermometer in water also gives a clue to which one is the coolant temp gauge
For the 5 dial clusters the oil temp is the gauge on the RIGHT
#13: Re: Is my car overheating? Author: MrZiggerz, Location: Milton KeynesPosted: Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:37 am ---- Mine doesnt have this

Not all 206's have an oil temp gauge.
Only really the sporty model's that do.
It can be retrofitted, myself & a couple of others have done this.
