I had a annoying knock under the car last year when turning over uneven ground which turned out to be the wishbone (lower arm), in the process of finding this out i had the n/s top mount changed as trial and error. It didn't fix the problem but it was seized and needed replacement anyway so it was a lucky spot.
The trouble was that the top mount after the suspension settled made a knocking noise over most bumps.
The garage said they had one or two problems aligning the pattern top mount and thought that this was the cause of the increased noise.
In the end the garage had to fit a genuine pug top mount to remedy this and after the arm was changed the car was silent.
The o/s has been making the same noises for the past few weeks so i took it for the (wishbone)lower arm and top mount replacement at the same time. the noise when turning has gone but I'm getting a knock over most bumps again so i thinking I may yet again need a genuine pug one fitted.
Has anyone heard of this? or had smilar problems with pattern top mounts. I'm getting the work done a kwik fit so it's not some back alley fly by night outfit. Last edited by Davels on Wed Feb 23, 2011 1:54 pm; edited 1 time in total

Buy cheap = buy twice.

By lower arm I meant the wishbone. The car suspension is standard and not lowered in anyway. Plus no extra pot holes kurbs or speed bumps hit on my daily drive.
MrBSI. I agree. Managed to get the lower arm fitted for free from the main dealer after a lot of arguing. And Kwikfit put the top mount right themselves with a gen part.
So on first impressions we are thinking they need a gen part again. I've been thinking its the most likely but they did say they had no problems whatsoever this time.

and yes i have to agree cheap wishbone won't last more than few months

Genuine Peugeot parts everytime.
It's been 5 years / 50k+ miles since my wishbones where replaced under Peugeot manuafcturers warranty.
#7: Re: Top mount failing Author: Davels, Location: NorfolkPosted: Wed Feb 23, 2011 2:15 pm ---- Top mount bearing and rubber has been changed on both sides. on the n/s last year the bearing was completely seized and fell into two parts when removed and the rubber was split and perishing. Despite that it wasn't causing any ill effects when driving. It was thought to be the cause of the problem that eventually turn out to be the wishbone.
As the wishbone was now knackered i thought it was best to swap out the o/s top mount at the same time.

with the car lowered quite low
£40 a pair job, Was surprised myself the lasted so long.
