doing it on my own cost me a black eye and a kick mark on the wing when the long bar i was using slipped out and smashed me in the face HARD left the car for 2 days before i decided to have another go WITHOUT THE BAR lol

However will be a bit messy if your passenger side drive shaft pop out, it will be gear oil everywhere.
I just change my ball joint rubber cover 3 months ago and found out that the best way to slot in the ball joint back into the hub as following (without using the jack),
1. U need 2 person on the job.
2. u need to use a flat head screw driver to slot it into the gap on hub to widen the slot for the ball joint.
3. 1 person will need to pull down the wishbone ball joint untill it it lower enough to position it into the hub.
4. Another person will need to hold and push the hub into the subframe direction while second person position the ball joint into the hub.
5. Once the ball joint is slot into the hub, use a torch to check the hole where u suppose to put the bolt in, it should be perfect round (so the bolt will able to slot in without problem). otherwise, u need to use the flathead screwdiver to push the top of your ball joint (adjust) untill the hole is fit to slot in a bolt. This happen because most likely you will push in the ball joint too deep and if the groove on the ball joint not in the right posistion, u won't able to slot in the bolt even u hammer it.
6. Once all done, take it from a ride to check for the handling. U most likely need a wheel alignment after this.

When I turn the disc on the hub, the axle doesnt seem right and it seems something is dislocated in the CV joint.
I will try your advice and see if it pops back in.
Think I'll also try spring compressors as they are a bugger to get in.
Any special advice for getting the drive shaft back in, or just a bit of persuasion?
