alright guys, just wondering if anyone has ever done the 2 top engine mounts on a gti 180? is it something you can do outside your house or would ya be better off in a garage? I did the lower one where you have to pop out the driveshaft and that was a proper pain in the ass, crazy design if you ask me, but still got a fair bit of movement on the engine when setting off etc. oh, and does anyone know how much the parts are from peugeot? cheers, any help appreciated, dez.

If your looking at bushing up the car and your going to be modifying it further at a later day or already are go with some stiffer poly bushes or maybe even solid bushes like baker bm. They're cheaper then OEM spec bushes and better.

But I do all my engine work on my 206 outside and never had a problem except for the passengers driveshaft which pops out at the slightest of movement outwards and leaks.

If you can get the car into the garage you'll stay warmer but the gearbox mount and also the drivers side engine mounts are the easier and just need the gearbox or the engine jacking up to keep it level while you change them over.

if you go for stiffer bush then you will be better to replace all bush at the same time, otherwise you are putting more strain on the standard bush.

not to mention if you use stiffer bush you will have more in-car vibration.

nah i disagree mate, by putting stiffer bushes in the top 2 mounts you are taking strain away from the bottom mount because they are holding the engine stiffer therefore allowing the bottom bush to move less. not a perfect situation i agree, but im not doing that bottom one again, right pain in the a**e ha. so do you know where to get these stiffer mounts? cheers
