#1: How much damage have I done? Author: Sheedy1592, Location: NewportPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 7:53 am ---- car: 2000 1.1 lx preplexed
Basically i had flat battery, went to charge it and had my charger on 24V by mistake. Connected it or around 20 seconds before realising my mistake!
Now i charged it on 12V to get it going and goes fine. Only thing is, fan wont go off and interior light/radio don't work.
No fuses blown :S

#3: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Big_Rich180, Posted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 7:59 am ---- Should be fine, i did it with my battery, also depends on how long you did it for?
#4: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Sheedy1592, Location: NewportPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:01 am ---- didnt charge it, just boosted it. I think should be fine yes, but i cant explain constant fan and lack of interior light

Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:09 am ---- are you certain the fuses arnt blown, sometimes they can look good when they arnt. also have you tried disconnecting it again and letting the power drain out of the systems before reconnecting it. oh i thought your first post said you were charging it?

Author: Deceitful, Location: Leigh, Tonbridge, KentPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:12 am ---- 99% it will be the fuses, a fuse' purpose is to break when there's a surge in the circuit im sure this what has happened, get a multi meter on each end of the fuses one by one, now it could be time consuming but auto electricans charge upwards of £50 per hour so could be a costly bill just to find out its a 9pence fuse
#7: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Sheedy1592, Location: NewportPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:14 am ---- i have checked all the fuses, admitably not with multimeter, but removed and visually inspected everyone all fine
#8: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Deceitful, Location: Leigh, Tonbridge, KentPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:19 am ---- dude!! seriously visual checks fail! i had this problem and there was a slight break in one and it was near on impossible to see
#9: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Sheedy1592, Location: NewportPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:21 am ---- will be getting the multimete rout later, do i just take them out and do a continuity test on the fuse then?

There a relays and obv you radio only like 12v may have FUBAR'ed them as there electronics in them, could have fried the ECU and BSI
#11: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Sheedy1592, Location: NewportPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:37 am ---- how can i check a relay? Im not too worried about radio, just wish i could get fan to go off.
#12: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:39 am ---- You sure its on constanly and not just because its meant to be?
#13: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Sheedy1592, Location: NewportPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:47 am ---- yes i disconnected battery for 15 mins and as soon as touched terminals, it came to life. could i have fried a sensor?
#14: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:48 am ---- possibly, either a sensor, relay or ECU
#15: Re: How much damage have I done? Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:50 am ---- the fans on even when the keys out? that is odd lol
