#1: 206 gti idle and running Author: jayz206gti, Location: TamworthPosted: Thu Mar 03, 2011 7:04 pm ---- My 99 gti seems to have a few problems im not too sure about. The first one is the idle. Though this doesnt seem to effect the car is idles at 500 instead of 750 and sounds a tad lumpy. it doesnt seem to effect acceleration though and drives ok.
Second is when im driving the engine seems to make a ticking/rattling noise, this seems to drop off when accelerating less but as soon as press the accelerator further the noise picks up again. Baffles me as ive checked oil levels and they are fine.
Any help with either of these would be great. Thanks

problem two: sounds like you have the common manifold rattle, try having a search around there's lots of people with this problem

Issue No2 could also be noisey tappets.

My GTi was a bit tappy from cold at times.
Also as stated above, the exhaust manifold is a known issue, but fairly uncommon. I changed the manifold clamp & it sorted it out.
