#1: Seized caliper Author: sicskate, Location: Margate, KentPosted: Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:57 am ---- Looks as if my front caliper on my gti is seized.
Anyone know how to release the piston, or should I just replace the caliper?
Many thanks
Ben

#5: Re: Seized caliper Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:51 am ---- Depends on what bit is seized up.
If the piston is seized then replace the caliper, if its just the sliders then clean / lube them up.

Try to avoid the piston popping out of the caliper, but if it does just clean up the caliper bore with 600 (or finer) wet and dry paper, refit and bleed the brakes.

I was inspecting my calipers on my 2000 gti and strangely my calipers opened upwards?!?
The 13mm bolt was on the bottom instead of the top...
I'm wondering if the calipers have been swapped?

There are 13mm nuts top & bottom, so they could hinge either way.
