#1: Twed's 207 GT HDi - fly eye's 19/11/10 Author: twed207, Location: borders, near carlisle. PostPosted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 4:15 pm

ok, this thread's for my 207... not much of a build thread at the mo as not much has been done but as time goes on i'll add the pics (as you do in a WIP thread.. Razz )

right toe... it's a 2008/58 207 GT with the gay DV6TED4 1.6HDi 110 FAP lump. it was £12,995 with 7,500miles. got it RR'd at eccosse and has 109.5hp and 193ft/lb. has half leather interior, panoramic roof, 17" alloys, folding mirrors, dual zone climate control, ESP, TC, ABS, electronic steering, tyre pressure monitors and a few more... Very Happy lots of toys!

my plans are lowering (maybe harder shocks too), refurb and spray the alloys white, CC the rear bumper insert and the bit that runs accross the middle of front in it's 'mouth' lol. pug sport lion in white accross the sides and tint the windies.

ok, when i bought it at the dealers...

then when i picked it up...

got the SP grille.

and GTi spoiler and exhaust bumper trim.

and got mud flaps last week.

some more piccies. Smile

picked up these from a lad on 207oc.com. Eibach pro-kit lowering springs. should drom it 35mm ish. all for the pricey sum of... £80. should have them on in a week or 2 Smile .

this is what i hope to make it look like... ish.

thanks for looking!

Twed.

The plan look good. I like the 207, the design is a lot better than the 306-307 progression although the front bumper still looks like a teenager with braces grinning like he's just read his first porno

aye it's a universal jobbie ape. not got the hoses and pipes yet. i've only just clicked buy it now! lol

was £65.

a forge one would be nice but i cant justify wpending £560 on a FMIC... lol

£65 is not bad at all, the forge kit is a bit expensive for what it is imo I am looking out for a double pass to make it easier on the fitting side but what i save in fitting will be spent on the cooler,

Sounds like a bargain Wink

That's a good price, although have you worked out the volume / efficiency of cooling etc?

I plumped for the Forge one, was meant to be £680 + Delivery, but managed to get a deal done with them for £540 or so Laughing I'll fit it myself and has all the clips, hoses, joiners, pipework and FMIC calc'd for the car Very Happy

erm, yesss.... lol.

all i can say is, the standard one is totty (smaller than a bit of A4 paper i think lol) and sits beside the radiator so this one will be in direct airflow in it's huge mouth so theoretically (sp), it should be better. was only £65 so meh, live and learn Razz lol

yeh mate, was looking for a twin pass but i think the one i got will be better flowing and it is possible to fit a single pass with no problems. Smile

RE turbo lag though... hopefully removing the DPF will counteract the bigger IC. Smile

come to think of it... it probs would have been cheaper to get a twin pass as i'm spending loads on piping and silicone!!! lol

i'm expecting none without a remap but my i'm aiming for about 145-150hp and about 230ftlb on the standard clutch.

once the clutch goes, i'll get an uprated one and a solid flywheel and go for abit more power... Very Happy

some silicone bends and mikalor clamps came today, put them together and it kinda looks like this... you get the idea on where the pipes will be going... Smile

i hope it will all fit in place like as the reducer and 180 bend on the other end make it a bit long like but i'm currently looking into the sujested route that sparco mentioned (spin the compressor housing and run the pipe behind the radiator). Smile

Got a few more parts for the IC install today. a joiner for the reducer and 180 pipe, a 90 degree bend and some more mikalor clamps.

also got some black sheet vinyl to do a wee styling mod. which went retardedly wrong!

was gonna put it on the roof and spoiler to give it the black roof look to go along with the glass... but i ended up with only a black spoiler... lol

before..

after

looks good although it's far from straight so i'm gonna try again and if i make a a**e of it i'll get it done professionally when i get the lions put on the side. Smile

Got my intercooler spray kit today. Smile

Basicly, it's a universal windscreen washer with some sprayers! Lol. Done a test with it in the sink and it's got a fair good spray with one nozzle so 2 might be abit poo lol.

Excuse the iPhone quality picture lol.

One thing I didn't realise with this is physics! You've got to have the nozzles at the same height or higher than the bottle so it doesn't leak out! Gonna have to put some thought into this one and maybe fabricate something... Lol

well... tried fitting the FMIC tonight and failed epicly! so i'm not a happy bunny! lol

it started off like so...

Max and Hurley wanted to watch... lol

got the bumper off after faffing on for about an hour and a half...

baby intercooler...

what a mess...

testing 1 pipe...

then after that, i got miffed! lol. put the IC into place and tried some pipes and put the bumper on and it didnt fit... all the pipes were in the way, so moved it down a bit under the slam bar and then the pipes wouldnt reach! Evil or Very Mad so turned it upside down and tried it, one pipe reached but the other didn't!! double Evil or Very Mad lol. so tried mounting it but not plumbing it in and f****d a drill bit trying to drill through the slam bar!!!

10:30 came and was pitch black so decided to put it all back together again and get some more parts tomorrow! lol

im still finding my pipes rubbing and catching on things Sad

i know you might hate me for saying this but would it have been easier to use a twin pass intercooler ?

What a b***h that was to get it all put in! Fog light was in the way, then the bumper grill! Lol

Yeh, got it all back together, had to force the bumper on because it was a squeeze and a half. Too it out for a test run and was ok, gave it some more boost and there was a loud WWWEEEEEEEE. boost leakage Sad so it's got to come off again and check all the fittings and use more tape... Lol.

Pics later.

Oh yeah... It took me 12 b@####d hours to do it! Most of which was trying to get the intercooler back enough and cutting the bumper and undertray that the bumper screws onto!

Grrrrr lol

here we go... the pics. lol

had the bumper off in minutes because i didn't put it back on properly... lol

start pulling the stock IC out.

IC out. (again...)

then a grey cloud came along and started spitting abit so quick as a flash, i put the zeebo up.

i know it looks shoddy, i put the cover on updide down. Rolling Eyes

FMIC mounted.

and it all went pear shaped for here on in. Sad
offered the bumper up and it didn't line up.

started cutting the bumper up with my sonic-crafter (kind of like a grinder)

then started putting the pipework together. i used a big pair of grips to put a flare on the ends of the pipes.

then wrapped them in PTFE/white tape.

then put them together.

and fitted them.

after that. is when i started losing hours of the day (and years off my life... lol). the bumper refused to go on so i cut more off the bumper, more off the brackets, adding and removing washers onto the bolt that holds the IC onto the bracket.

lots of plastic cuttings from the bumper and under tray (thats not even half of it!)

and cutting me lol. lucky i wasnt using a grinder!

got p**sed off and me and my dad forced the bumper on and put it all back together. the IC and pipes are pushing the grill out abit and it looks w**k. lol

and that's that! there's a bit of a hissing squeal when on full boost but holding constant boost and giving it some good spikes, it didn't pop off, and it still goes well so no performance lost (TBH, i think it's quicker. but that might just be me... lol).

if i've got time next weekend, i'll take it to bits again and try turning it upside down and if it means cutting a chunk out of the slam bar, then so be it! lol

xx

Dont cut the slam panel, safety is more important than performance. Just give yourself time, and take some accurate measurements. You need to centre the intercooler anyway, so you might as well get that fitter properly first.

How about mounting the intercooler directly below the slam panel, and the return pipe undernteath that. That would pull everything back and inline.

not a happy bunny..! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

it was all going so well... got it all put to gether, plumbed in the spray kit but nor wired it in, bumper on, arch liners and wheels back on. went for a drive and took it easy, car felt really good so started giving it some stick, was going ok and no boost leak. turned round and on the final straight entering the vilage...

BOOOFF!!!

pipe jumped off. Sad have to take it all to bits again... Sad

i think i'll get away with just taking the wheel and arch liner out so hopefully it's not that bad. it was the pipe that was leaking before.

god damn boost! lol

well... took it to bits, sorted out the pipes and put it all back together in about 2.5 hours tonight when i got in after 8... lol.

the pipe that popped off was the one that was leaking before and it was the tape that slipped off the pipe. took it off and butchered it a bit so that the ends of it are more flared... also tightened all the clamps some more and bust one Embarassed , got some big hose clamps from B&Q and put them on as well as re-inforcement. lol

took it out for a drive and all seemed well, for now! Laughing . holds boost fine with no leaks and gave it some welly and a few spikes and all good... Very Happy

pictures from saturdays capers...

found my trolley jack... lol

hawk wanted to watch this time. Laughing

the leaky pipe.

wrapped the steel pipe (was getting rusty) and covered it in tech wax (not the ends though Wink ) to help keep it clean.

now for the fun. bought some bathroom sealing rubbery strip stuff from B&Q to put round the outside of the silicone pipes to hopefully help give the clamps some more bite.

all back together. Smile

and now for the ghetto-fab shizzle! Very Happy

mounted the sprayer bottle with abit of pole i found in the garden and bolted it to the horn mounts. lol

and to help fill it up, a bit of hose going up to the top of the bay to pour the ware down... Mr. Green =D> lol

sprayers.

while the wheels were off, i cleaned them on the inside - before. mingin!!

after.

should of clayed them to get all the crap out.

that's it for now until another hose pops off! lol

Twed, have you thought about beading the pipes so the silicone can grip better? The pipes on my LCR have a bead / lip on their edge to help the silicone pipes remain in place. You can make the same lip with metal glue, or the other alternative is to burr them with a file to make them rough, helping with grip again.

Just a thought.... Very Happy

or change your pipework / FMIC for one that's less restrictive Laughing

yeah, i've put a flare on the ends of all the pipes and made them rough with a file. my problem is that my mikalor clamps are a few mm too big and they're not biting down hard enough on the silicone.

some smaller ID clamps have landed today so i'll fit them next time it goes bang! lol

I've decided just to get a remap on it's own now. I really can't afford getting the exhaust done now due to the car needing new tyres and the back wheel on my bike collapsing. Sad

Gonna call Paul on Tuesday to have a good chin wag and book it in for a few weeks time. Smile

I may accompany you on your journey then lad, should be interesting Smile

lol graham...

well, i left the house at 6am, got fuel at carlisle and reset the trip meter. stopped at scotch corner them bombed down the A1. landed just before half 9 and the car done 61MPG on the way down. Smile

put my car on at 10am and done a base run.

for some reason i had a wee bit more than i should... perhaps the crappy FMIC actually doing it's job lol. or it's the dyno...

anywhoo. paul fiddled on with the file, said there was like, 15 maps on the file and it's all torque based so lots of limits in the file. all well over my head! took him 4 or 5 alterations to get the final result and it took him a good 3 hours to do it all. on the last run after asking for a bit more poke than 130, i gave a chilish grin in approval!

peak is 134hp and about 225ft/lb. i'm fairly happy with the results! a load smoother and as you can see from the graph, there's bigger gains in other parts of the map other than just peak power. he mapped it to that as we dont know how much the car is smoking because of the DPF! Evil or Very Mad . might even have 1 or 2 more hp's as the DPF was getting blocked and tried to regerate on the dyno. pmsl. the return trip was 60MPG with some motorway blasts and a regen. Smile

and finally, the real reason i went to RS Tuning..!

a £350 sticker!!! Very Happy :D lol

Keeping to 'economy' is hard, the temptation to just push the pedal is too great - and often I think you end up doing it inadvertently!

The torque graph looks amazing, looks like quite a drastic change in the lower range Very Happy

20hp increase and the clutch is slipping? How many miles has your car done?

40,000 miles. remeber, it's not the power that makes it slip, it's the oodles torque! i'm taking the figues with a pinch af salt here like but even on the eccosse RR i had more torque than i should have on a standard 110. the power was 109.5 and 193 torques, as opposed to 107/108 and 180 torque. so with it having 44 +/- a bit more torque, no wonder it's slipping.

my 206 had a bad generic map on it which gave it 174ft/lb over the 150 standard, and that slipped!

if i watch what i'm doing i can get on fine. but if i plant it too soon the clutch will slip a few hundred RMP. Smile

new kevlar clutch and uprated pressure plate (good for over 300ft/lb Twisted Evil ) is around £350... Shocked lol
