#1: high temperature Author: 206racer, Location: derbyshirePosted: Sat Mar 19, 2011 11:15 am ---- Just changed g/f coolant and thermostat.now the temperature settles at 90 is this what it should be.When the old thermostat was in it stayed around 72.Anyone any ideas.?

90 sounds fine, 72 that old thermostat must have been stuck open

putting the the Theromstat in boiling water is not a good test I believe,because it's diff. when Fitted on the car,and the coolant circle makes it work as it should,so it's not accurate,and as they guys said,it may not close well,or it stays open.
on the other hand,the temp you are getting with the new thermostat is the right one,it should be on 90,and the fan kick between 93-97,so you did the right thing by changing it,when you flushed the coolant,and do this every year,so that you don't face problems with the temp,cuz Thermostat can sometime stay open,and car stay cold,OR sometimes get stuck and don't open at all,which can damage your engine and head gasket for a start

if it doesnt go above 97 it wont damage the engine due to heat. the engine likes to be nice and warm, just not too hot lol.
