#1: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:13 pm ---- Well here is my car. Had it for a couple of months now but thought I would start a thread. So far I have;
Fitted a 8000k HID kit
Removed horrible chrome lexus rear lights and replaced with M3 style from Ecosse
Replaced custom exhaust with Janspeed. Very happy with the result
Cupra R front splitter
Plans
I don't want to change it much and want it to be simple;
Lowering slightly, don't want it slammed
BMC CDA induction
Heres first pictures after changing the lights
Any comments welcome, good or bad Last edited by LiamGTi180 on Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:19 pm; edited 3 times in total

#9: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: DJ-, Location: UKPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:18 pm ---- morettes are overdone...dont do it...
Nice motor, but parking that close to the curb sheesh.
I know I have to because there's a school down my road and in the mornings cars park both sides. i dont want a massive dent from a car or a pram on the path lol
Nice car mate, first on my list would be to get those mirrors changed!

Not a fan of the carbon then lol? Change them to what? Im thinking maybe just gloss black
Didn't realise they were the standard carbon thought someone had changed them over it's life. Nah those are cool then mate it's just the pic messing me about!

I'll let you off then. They do look a weird colour on pic. Think its because the sky is reflecting off them
Is this the car you see around oxford and culham lol?
Yep i'm pretty sure its you I will def look out for you now. there's a guy in another blue 180 that i see alot too
There aint many 180s about round here is there? Ive seen 1 other blue one in like 3 months lol
#18: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:38 pm ---- I'll put a video and pics up when I get the Janspeed. Hopefully Friday or Monday can't wait. Does anyone have a Janspeed cat back? Whats it like on long journeys? Just wondering because I've got a 300 mile journey to do next month. Will I need ear plugs lol?
#19: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:41 pm ---- looks really nice. Colour coded morettes or standard headlights look way nicer than angel eyes.

#21: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:16 am ---- Ordered the Janspeed this morning so I'll have it tomorrow or Friday. Also thinking of getting it lowered. What heights suit the 180? I don't want to have to uprate shocks etc so how low could i go?
#22: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:20 am ---- looking good. I want a set of those lights with the lower half smoked slightly
#23: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Sat Mar 26, 2011 10:30 am ---- Got the Janspeed fitted. What a sound Bit tricky tho because the people who put a custo
exhaust on it welded the centre pipe to the cat. After visiting 5 garages and being turned away powerflow in Swindon did the job perfectly.
#24: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Wed Jun 08, 2011 5:41 am ---- Fitted Cupra R front splitter now. Pics of Janspeed and splitter to follow

#26: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Wed Jun 08, 2011 6:05 am ---- Heres a picture of the Janspeed fitted. Want to debadge rear now to clean it up a bit
Heres the front with the new cupra r splitter. Quick and easy to fit. Simple but i like it
#28: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 2:02 pm ---- New pictures up now. Next step is lowering. I want to do it on a budget and I am looking for a height of around 50mm front 40mm back. Would this height cause any problems with speed bumps etc? Opinions on car welcome:
Also MOT yesterday. Passed with no advisories
#29: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: DJ-, Location: UKPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:01 pm ---- Whats with the debadged sp grill badge? I cant see the SP bit?!? :S

I'm doing the same with Eibach sport lines and torsion lowering to make it even. You will need to slow right down for bumps but I do anyway with mine on standard suspension!

Ok cheers mate. Yeah i go over speed bumps at 20 at the moment because of the stiff suspension on the 180.

I do, but it's with a Race cat + Typhoon induction kit, so it's quite loud.. If you keep the revs down and put the music volume up you're fine And a 300 mile journey in the 180 is gona cost a fortune haha

I've got it fitted now. Pics page 2. Noise isn't too loud so I'm very happy. Yeah 300 miles in a 180 pretty much empties the tank lol

#41: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: Mike_XS, Location: SouthamptonPosted: Wed Oct 12, 2011 4:03 pm ---- Personally I preferred the original colour of the wheels. The car looks mint though.
#42: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 11:47 am ---- Ok so was going to get it lowered but now the car needs a new battery and front speakers are blown. So have to postpone that for another month now.
#43: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: shell-vt, Location: durhamPosted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 12:43 pm ---- mine looked like that once over..
#44: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:24 pm ---- New battery fitted and starting perfectly now. Gutted about having to postpone the lowering. Think it needs lowering more now with wheels dunno why.
Simota Carbon Intake now bought. Cant wait to fit it now!
#45: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: Dutch-HDi, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:37 pm ---- White wheels are the WTG looks awesome, be great to see it when you get it lowered

Thanks mate. Was unsure whether to go white but i am glad i did now
#47: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 12:40 pm ---- Right I've got an update... finally
I've just had the car lowered. Looks so much better now. Pics to follow.
Also I have decided to remove the enclosed induction kit. I've noticed the car has lost a lot of low down torque so I am going back to standard airbox with a panel filter.
#48: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: JamieM, Posted: Sun Apr 08, 2012 4:44 pm ---- My car hasn't lost power, well doesn't feel like it, did you fit it correctly as per instructions? Remove all stock s**t?
#49: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Mon Apr 09, 2012 11:04 am ---- Yeah fitted as instructed and ripped all the stock s**t out. I've noticed that when above 3000RPM it probably has better throttle response but from the line it really bogs down. Also the metal pipe connecting to the throttle body gets really hot so that can't be good

Oh, hmm I don't notice any loss. I thought mine pulled better, mine wheel spins all over the place anyway more so with these s**t budgets I've got on the front atm so I really don't know.
Why not try bolting the stock filter system to the lower part of the Simota system with an uprated panel?

I may try that. Sounds like a good idea. I suppose people will get different results, i might just be dreaming it to be honest. Im going to go back to standard and then compare i think

#53: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: JamieM, Posted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:50 am ---- Looks nice mate What suspensions it on?
Its prosport coilovers. I know they are cheap but couldnt be happier with them the ride isn't harsh at all and the handling fells a lot tighter than before. And it looks so much better
#55: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: JamieM, Posted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 12:06 pm ---- Hmm, well if they are any good I may try them.
I'll see how you get on with them for a while first though, not being dicky but it's the obvious thing to do lol
I'm all for budgeting now, If I never tried the Simota CAI people on Saxperience and here would say they were cheap and wouldn't touch them, a few people have bought them because I recommended them.
Any pics of the kit how you recieved it? Is it like normal coilovers come with the bar to adjust ect?
#56: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2012 12:42 pm ---- Yeah it is. Comes with tool to adjust and rear shocks all for £180. I don't mind being the guineapig ha i'll let you know how i get on with them
#57: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: bashyy1, Location: Milton KeynesPosted: Wed Apr 11, 2012 10:02 am ---- Did you ever put up a vid of the Janspeed or have I missed it?
#58: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:06 am ---- Love the look of the car.
Perhaps consider getting black masked headlights to go with your look?
Perhaps consider getting black masked headlights to go with your look?
White wheels black headlights?
His look is fresh, oem+
If he had black wheels and black LED's I'd agree LOL.
Liam cars looking nice mate, how are those coilies holding up?

The standard headlights just don't fit now. Looks chrome and we all know chrome is a NO! I wouldn't go for angels, DRL or Morette as it will take away from the OEM + image. Masked headlights still make use of the standard headlight design (just black in parts) so you still got the OEM + image. It will give some nice depth to the front of the car.
Perhaps if you ask nicely there might be someone in your area with masked headlights. Perhaps they can swop one for a few minutes and see if the look works with your car. Otherwise just use photoshop

Your opinion though mate & I disagree.
White wheels, almost OEM rear lights... black masked headlights?
I like the stock headlights, the only thing I dislike about this car are the SP grilles, I hate them on my car too.
If he had dark wheels, & maybe darker after market rears sure.
Fresh - 'OEM+' to me
Light alloys, silver, white , light anthracite
Stock rear lights or, red with crystal look
stock headlights, or gay angels.
Stock grilles or SP silver
Modified 'Smoked'
Darker anthracite or black wheels
Morrettes, masked crystals, smoked gay angels
After market rears black LED's ect
Zunsport or stock grilles
& that's my opinion.

Ok do I decided black in the end.
Next up are black masked headlights
Smoked side repeaters
Lightly smoke rear lights

Pic above doesn't do it justice. But here's a close up. Pretty impressed for a DIY job
#65: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: LiamGTi180, Location: OxfordPosted: Fri Nov 30, 2012 5:25 am ---- Not really an update but my future plans are;
Respray wheels again in Seat gun metal grey
I havent ever seen it done before but i want to spray my SP grille in same Seat gun metal colour
Possibly carbon fibre wrapped roof (unsure yet)
Spray calipers silver
Spray cupra r splitter in gun metal
#66: Re: Liams GTi180 Author: JamieM, Posted: Fri Nov 30, 2012 9:21 am ---- It would look good bar gay carbon wrapping.
Problem is it will chip to f*** and look tatty. If you're doing the SP grill & Splitter defo get it done professionally so they are more durable.
I did a PS of the cupra R splitter CC'd on my car a while back it looks good so the gun metal one will look good.
