283mm discs but you will still get that horrible squeels as the 406 uses 302mm disc

Not sure about wheels but you need discs from a GTi 180 there 283mm I think that gti6 ones are the same but not 100%. You can use xsara v6 discs which are 288mm and should stop the squeling but they more expensive and you might need to take a bit off the inside of the caliper to clear the disc.

Gti-6 discs are thinner than 180s

gti6 are 24mm and 180 are 26 iirc, i dont think the squeeling will stop unless you fit the right size discs (302) i had them on mine and in the end went back to standard. also the master cyclinder needs to be bigger as you will have excessive break travel

I think the squeel could be because the edge of the pad overlaps the disc slightly. If your cars standerd then there's no real reason to upgrade the brakes other than for looks. Decent discs, pads, fluid and braided hoses will make a big differnce but could end up costing as much as the 406 conversion done on a budget (standerd discs etc.)

thats right if you look at my pic on the bottom outer edge it dont break on it causing it to squeel. if you use 302mm disc you will need a bracket making up. i also forgot you will need 20mm wheel spacers as the caliper will hit the wheel due to the ofset of the 406 brembos

nah braided lines are less than 50 and pads will be under 150 so i'll probably go down that route, discs are nearly new and fitting won't cost me anything.

the 406 calipers are starting to get more expensive on e-bay i've been watching a few heading towards the 200 quid mark!

Decent discs, pads and braided hoses will be £200-£250 + the fluid. Brembo conversion can be done for around £250-£300 with standerd discs and pads

it all depends on the primary usage of the car.

more expensive, fanncy trackday pad wouldn't do any good on normal tesco trip driving

brembo disc+pad cost round 70-90 on a 2.0HDi.
