#1: GTi questions Author: mdstone, Location: South WalesPosted: Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:14 am ---- Does anyone know if some GTi's were factory fitted without a spoiler. I have a GTi but it never had one. It doesn't really bother me but if this came with one as standard i'm tempted to fit one and not have to tell my insurance about it.

As for fitting one & not telling the insurance about it, they & anybody else can find out exactly what spec / was fitted when it rolled out the factory by looking on Peugeot service box, all they need is the vin number.

iirc all the phase 1 GTi came without spoilers (they were an option)

I would be thinking, "GTi - with spoiler, sounds normal to me". I would be insuring it as it came when I bought it (technically).
From an insurance point of view, adding a spoiler would be classed as making the car more attractive to thieves or making it stand out more than it would otherwise do.

As each car obviously has an insurance catagory. If two people bought a 1.4 for example. One could be completely standard (steel wheels, non painted parts) and the other could have alloys, spoiler and whatever added on.
Yet both will be classed as the same insurance group and unless you know and unless you know what optional extras were from new you aren't going to be able to declare them.

Then if I make a claim and they assess the vehicle and see it on there they could say it is void. I gues it is the chance I take.
How hard are they to fit a standard spoiler?

I told them I wasn't going to bother fitting it but then I did it anyway. I then changed insurance company the following year. So if I say to the new company that the vehicle is how I received it from previous owner then I guess they cannot call the policy void.
I would love to know how the insurance companies work!

Depends on how you fit it.
Mines bolted & stuck down.
Genuine Peugeot spoiler comes with fitting template & idiot proof instructions.
