Low speed fan kicks-in at 96 C.
You can use this info to find-out by how much your temp-gauge is out. With the pointer damping and other factors involved it can easily be as much as 10 C out. On a long-journey the coolant temp will be 89 C because that's where the wax thermostat keeps it if it's working properly. Again, this will give you an idea if the gauge correlates.

Non-mux 206 have sepperate sensor ellement for the temp gauge and are always the worst. The coolant-temp sensor has 3 wires instead of 2 in this case, and casing is used for grounding too.
