#1: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: Luke, Location: LeedsPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 3:21 pm ---- Starting to see these dotted around the forum and in the shout box, so started this thread to keep them all in one place.
If you spot a glitch or problem somewhere or can suggest somethig that would improve the site, please add it below.
Please bear in mind some things need a lot of time to do, and that AJ and Ste are both busy chaps.

#6: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: Dave, Location: BirminghamPosted: Wed Apr 28, 2010 5:49 pm ---- Got a few suggestions as i feel the 206info layout is a bit messy in places for no real reason.
1) ''Moderator: Exchange Staff'' This is in the bottom of each section of the website. (The page reached when clicking 'Forums'.
There is no need for it and it seems to clog up the website/make it look messier for no real reason. Most forums i use dont have this at all.
2) Official 206Info Events + Events + All the regional ones. These seems a bit pointless to me. IMO it should be.
There is no need for the Meet Photos section, these can go into the Photoshoot Gallery. Links always get posted from the Meet thread, to the Photo threads anyway. No need for just a Meets photo section imo.
The MEETS, EVENTS & COMMUNITY section would now look like this instead.
1) Events
2) Regional Meets
3) Spotted
Much simpler, and the 'Forums' page is now much tidier.
3) 207 Talk - Look how unpopular it is, this could simply be deleted and the threads could be posted up somewhere else on the site. (Free Chat/206 discussion if need be) Another example of it clogging up the main page.
Alternatively, you could turn it into 'General Automotive Section' and have a General Automotive Media Section alongside it, where people like myself, Ape, Ross, Seb blah blah can post up pics of their cars, not clogging up 206 media sections. Also, pictures of Porsches, JDM projects etc could be located here.
Let me know what you think, if you want more detail, examples etc. PM me.
#7: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: Dave, Location: BirminghamPosted: Wed Apr 28, 2010 5:52 pm ---- Oh, And how do i turn signatures off, as this feature seems to have disappeared from the old site.
Hate signatures! Biggest way of clogging up a sites image when going through it!
#8: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: JordGJ, Location: Leeds / West MidlandsPosted: Wed Apr 28, 2010 5:58 pm ---- 1) I don't have last 10 replied to topics in my account page really miss that feature.
2) When you click in the quick search box can the 'enter search here' text dissapear, it sounds silly but I use it a lot and it can be a pain lol

#14: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: Dave, Location: BirminghamPosted: Thu Apr 29, 2010 6:37 am ---- Agree with that Vanman.
I think due to the website being a bit cluttered/messy, it means people dont navigate around the site properly.
For example. People would just click 'Latest Posts', Rather than explore through the menus as much. Thats what i do on here, where as on other sites, i look in the sections.

#43: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: VorTechS, Location: Gloucestershire, UKPosted: Thu Sep 09, 2010 7:36 am ---- Ah c'mon, give me credit for solving the mystery
Since the buyout (which only happened in 2007) they've obviously dropped the old domain name, and also by the looks updated the way 'business is done'. I guess someone with the relevant access needs to update the shop settings or something.
We'll get it done as soon as someone with that access is able to.

#55: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: rudebwoi93, Location: LondonPosted: Thu Sep 09, 2010 9:34 am ---- Ok, so when you go onto your profile, you can view 'your last 10 forum topics', but the only other clickable option is to 'View all posts by _____', it would be nice to have a second option, infact to make this the first option: Something along the lines of:
'_____ Last 10 forum topics':
1 to 10 topics here....
'View all ______ forum topics'
'Find all posts by ______'
Hope that makes sense guys! - It would just help to keep a track of things a lot more, and also yeah, the search feature is awful, impossible to find anything whatsoever using the quick search, how about an embedded google site search? - Just spitballing

This normally works, but today if I visit a thread, when I return to the postings list, it only shows what has been posted whilst I'd been viewing that thread! Thus I don't know what's been posted over the last however many days since I last visited!
TBH I don't have time to trawl through each section on the off chance that one of the threads is A: Recent and B: Worth looking at.

My guess is that the query for the latest post gets fired twice, one for the search and for the shoutbox and it just so happened that in the fraction of a second that the webserver rendered each part of the page - the results changed quite dramatically.
Or your browser hasn't got a clue. *shrug*

i think the reason that the latest 10 posts when you click your profile, from the old site isn't there because it's a fairly complicated peice of coding and may impare the forums performance...
correct me if i'm wrong code monkeys?

#72: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: VorTechS, Location: Gloucestershire, UKPosted: Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:30 pm ---- From a technical perspective, it's no worse than say clicking on 'View All Posts' for user which I think is available, but possibly only to the code monkeys.
I have no idea what strain the site puts on the servers though, as I've got no access to diagnostics on the live environment.
#73: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:38 pm ---- Well what botheres me that when you click (Find all posts by "Member ID"),you get all the topics your posted in,but with repeat, why they have to repeat the thread title each time you post??it makes hard to track all the posts you posted in
@twed207-your way works perfectly, but why should I do that everytime i want to check the threads I posted in,while there is an exisisting feat. to (Fina all posts by...),right?
So if they keep it with repeating the title over and over, then things will be great

My guess is that the query for the latest post gets fired twice, one for the search and for the shoutbox and it just so happened that in the fraction of a second that the webserver rendered each part of the page - the results changed quite dramatically.
Or your browser hasn't got a clue. *shrug*

Hate signatures! Biggest way of clogging up a sites image when going through it!
I would like to know this too! i had a look but cant seem to do it
#84: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: VorTechS, Location: Gloucestershire, UKPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 6:04 am ---- The problem here is the definition of 'latest posts' (my original hypothesis was in fact wrong!).
It is in fact just a re-direct to 'View Posts since your last visit' and the problem is that your last visit is defined as a certain window of time. If you visit the site, and then leave it idle for a while (not sure on the exact time frame) then the server/site cookie will declare you AWOL, and your next visit will result in a new session, and therefore a new 'visit' to the site. Thus, this link will show you everything that has had posts between your visits, whereas the scrolling box will show the latest t 'xx' posts regardless.
I actually hate the 'View Posts Since Your Last Visit', as you can easily time out looking through pages and pages of stuff. I wish it wasn't so restrictive and was based on the last 72 hours, if the server deems you to have revisited within say 24 hours. That's just a tiny simple case of changing the sql (I'm guessing it's on an sql backend).
#86: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: adzar, Location: UKPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 6:10 am ---- On the PS3 browser, sometimes the pages fail to load anything meaningful. It's just the background layer I think. For some pages it works fine, otheres it doesn't. I'll get a picture next time I'm on to show what I mean.

You'd think so, but I guess it depends on where the 'last visit' is defined. I know there's an entry on the user table for it, but it could well actually be being taken initially from a session cookie if the site is cookie based.

#102: Re: Site suggestions and glitch reports Author: sam-c, Location: Uni: Kent Home: ScunthorpePosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 2:45 pm ---- The for sale section on here isn't the best if were being honest. How about having sections in it. Something in the style of that over on TalkAudio for instance which is very easy to use and easy to find what your looking for. I know they have started to charge for adds which I think is a bad idea so thats not what I'm suggesting at all but the general layout is very good.
Anyone can view it so I suggest people have a look and see what they think but personally I think it would be a great improvement

so ill ask in here, in one forum i hve the ability to edit my username, now i dont want to edit it much, just put a capital g at the start so its 'Ghosty' not 'ghosty' or even if a mod can change this for me
many thanks
edit: also noticed in the forsale section you cannot make a post at all unless you meet a certain criteria and while i understand this, there was a post in there recently about some led sidelights that had no colour specified, so to ask what it was rather than just ask in the topic i had to pm the guy, yet at the bottom it said i could post in that section.

Editing username Pm admin so that you know it has changed for your next login
As for the other will check the forum permissions as you should be able to post just not create a thread. but your nearly there with your criteria.
