You dont need a clutch in a dogleg box

They are designed to have the need of no clutch Wink

Anyone who has owned an older Ford with the ratchet and paw self adjusting clutch learns to live without a clutch to aid gear changes very quickly. Basically you would put you foot on the clutch, hear the click and your pedal would stay on the floor. Only way to change gear was to crunch the synchromesh or learn how to change gear on the engine speed. If you get it right, it can be a smoother gear change than when you are using the clutch.

Deadeye, is the squeaking could just be the spring on the pedal or the pivot point. The biting point can vary from vehicle to vehicle. You can check if your clutch is slipping by applying the handbrake, selecting second gear and releasing the clutch pedal. If the engine stalls immediately then the clutch is fine.

I haven't done anything to the engine it is completly standard. I thought the squeaking sound was the Aux belt but that's been changed and been told from Peugeot that clutch release bearing is going.

Squeal stops when clutch is pressed in and starts again when released

I've also got a squeaky clutch, squeaks when when its pressed and released, is this a sign of the clutch going? or just old age?

Possibly the release bearing. they sometimes make a funny grateing noise before they go. When you use the clutch all the components are subject great forces and heat, these all add to the wear and tear. It sounds like your bearing has lost it's lubricant and may be biting onto the fingers of the pressure plate.

i changed the clutch on my partners 14 8v quiky at 75k. the clutch was fine but the release bearing was goosed!, gearbox off, drivshfts pis to get at!! don't fancy that job again!!
are the 1.4 16v very tunable then? what adds the hp? achip will see about 5-6 bhp in realword figuares, exhaust and filter another 5-6 if lucky, so what makes this engine tunable?

#28: Re: 1.4 16v 206 what milage do clutches last?, cambelt change? Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/London PostPosted: Wed Apr 06, 2011 5:03 am

its not a tunable engine unfortunately.

i have got a BMC panel filter system and a cat back exhaust system need to get it rolling roaded to see if any increase. after that is a 4-2-1 mani and a high flow sports cat.

other then this there is no cam options or anythin. so my next port of call is attempting a remap.

So your saying you can change gears without any use of a clutch? and not cause damage?

With practice you can Wink

Its the sort of thing you practice in a hire / loan car Laughing
