My Audi is the quietest car i've had, mind you it's multitronic so it's doing about 1800rpm at 70, which helps
Same. Multitronic too... But lovely on the motorway. Goes like a beast too...
The 5 Series (09) was mint on the motorway too. Put it this way, we erm... "tested" the performance of it and even at 'certain' speeds, the noise levels were brilliant.

Ok, well so would I for playing around in and a weekend car, but lets be honest, the 206 is hardly that fast, maybe fun.. and prior to the sound proofing very noisy for all the wrong reasons. However for journeys over 200 miles, with 3 passengers and luggage that kind of car is nothing but tiring, and in the 206 all but impossible. Firm suspension and noisy exhausts do not a comfortable journey make.. Hence why I will be getting myself a 'weekend' car at later date!
I'm suprised at the responses, as I have not found any of the cars I have been in to be quiet or silent in anyway. Far from it. I meant to get a Db meter app for my phone and try it, though they are not accurate and I have no way of calibrating it, I can compare it with the 180 readings.
The mazda 3 was awful. The brochure even goes on to mention lowest drag coefficient in class and road and wind noise all but non existent... Well at 70mph, the wife in the back couldn't hear what was being said between me and the sales man in the front.. And to me, that says it all!
I'm interested to try the A4, however I'm completely gob smakked that not 1 of the 10+ I have sat in have an arm rest which is just stupid IMO. Also it's quite small inside for it's size, I'm 6'4 and when in the driving position, getting behind my seat is very hard. Hence the look to the A6 which is still less roomy than the Mondeo.
Going to availablecar again tonight, will try out some other options.. I liked the Lexus Is220 but wife doesn't and boot is small anyway, so thats out for start.

#22: Re: Replacing the 180, dissapointed by how noisy new cars ar Author: Antix, Location: WorcesterPosted: Fri Apr 08, 2011 4:26 am ---- Golf GT TSI 160 (twincharger)
As fast as a 180, as economical as a diesel, and is a VW.
When I took it to RSTuning to go on the dyno the bloke who drove it asked if it was electric.
That's quiet.
For a totally quiet ride avoid the 18" alloy wheel option (assuming you have £21k to spare)

even the mark 5 is a quiet car! traveling normally its lovely even on trips to germany and back! but giving it some beans makes the exhaust a lil more gutsy and a good sound from the S/C and T/C.
o and the mark 5 is 170bhp so better then the 6! lol
