#1: Self re-con engine or change full engine?? Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, Northamptonshire PostPosted: Sat Apr 09, 2011 10:19 am
    ----
right now i have fixed over heating on the 1.6 8v i have now, only problem it has a bit of bottom end knocking noise and since i have had it bit of mayo on cap has shown up (didnt have it when i got it) and oil smells little petrol a bit.

now i have never fully stripped an engine down before my self, wouldnt mind having a crack at, have idea how its done also haynes books too,

tho im unsure if to have a crack at it myself or just get a 2nd hand engine (that could be just as bad) if i do mess it up then i will have no choice but to get a new one.

if i do it myself any tips? if i do replace engine any other type of engine that will be easy to get in? or just keep same type?

im not after a faster engine or anything yet (that would be a plus) just after getting it going etc,

ben.

How much you looking to spend?

Parts can soon add up unless your getting them at trade prices.

Timing belt kit, water pump, bearings, head bolt set, gasket etc.

I visited them... they seem to know whats the right way to treat a customer and they sell good quality used units. They would probably arrange a delivery for you.
