#1: Am I blind? Author: LeeThr, Location: North West Wales PostPosted: Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:16 am

Is it just me or does the proper hatchback petrol model XSI seem a tad rare? It's not very often I see one on the roads or for sale for that matter. So whats going on? Did they not make that many of them? Or does all the owners have them hidden away in a garage.

I want an XSI next, it's only £100 more for the year on insurance than my 1.4 LX so cant complain. But it's finding one for the right price etc.

Also what seems even rarer is the phase 1's (Dont want a phase 2 really cant be botherd with the whole BSI trouble etc, rather stick with a badly designed electrical system that doesnt take too much to fix when it goes wrong) is the leather interior. Ive seen a few phase 2's with them quite readily availible. But phase 1 seems like asking for blood from a stone.

My XSI is half Phase 1 Half Phase 2. And I have the Half leather Interior.

How the hell does that work? From factory? Or did you get the spanners out yourself?

From Factory Mate, It is all Phase 2 now but Mine is A 02 plate which I believe is when they started the switchover from phase 1 to phase 2. I had stuff like phase 2 wash jet's but phase 1 rear light's.

my friends 1.4 is like that. He has a 52 plate, has all the multiplex parts like new headunit, new indicator stalks etc but the phase 1 bumper and phase 1 clouded headlights

Nothing wrong with a multiplexed 206.

Its when people start dicking around with the electrics that problems start Wink

multiplexed ones arent bad at all though unless you maybe want intense engine mods then it would prove abit more difficult than preplexed. I wouldnt touch a too old one when new ones are cheap these days!

Id much rather have a multiplexed XSI.

Better immobiliser, trip computer, dual stage airbags, much better electrical system.

Can't f*** about as much with mux tho Laughing

Well you can, but when people don't know what they are doing, thats when you get sky high repair bills Laughing

The XSI was a XS before 2002 was it not? My car is multiplexed and I have never had a issue with it apart from a flat battery.

nope the xs and xsi are seperate! 8v vs 16v engine and obvious bits like bumpers etc!

Hmmm.... Im not so sure now. Ive just heard too many bad storys about the multiplexed system. I do like to mess around with electrics as well. So i'd be constatntly thinking what am I going to upset now.

I dont completly p**s about with stuff. Just id want my aftermarket HU in there along with the amp. Also Ive got a few light strips etc Id want to throw in so would need to splice into some live's from somewhere.

But then the price of leather interiors has come down, so you could buy one of these and change the interior. That would probably be easier

Full black leather interior is pretty rare even these days.

I retro fitted full black leather interior to my GLX back in 07, came out of a GTI being turned in to track car.

Retro fitted the side airbags as well

What dya mean Retro fitted? Did the GLX come with side airbags as standard?

No

Wiring is there though as it uses the same cabin loom & BSI unit as the XSI & GTI spec Wink

Basic plug & play with the sill sensors & correct airbag ecu fitted.

Simples! As the meerkats would say then.

Think that could be an option i'd just rather it be factory fit. I'm not 100% sure id trust myself fitting the front seats. If something where to happen and it was something to major to somebody in the front I think i'd live the rest of my life constantly wondering would they be in that state if I'd left the seats as they where. Im not saying it will happen, just another one of those what if situations I could never forget.

What He Said

4 bolts hold each front seat in.

If the bolts are all tightened correctly the seats will be fine just as if they had been factory fitted.

XS is a lower spec.

Thirsty 8 valve 1.6 engine.

Most XS have rear drum brakes with NO abs.

XS was an extra £17.50

XSI was an extra £551 :l

Jesus that aint good. Was looking at insurance on my 1.4 the other day as mines due in about 6 weeks times just to get an idea. Came up about £1380 I think it was. Put in the reg for an XSI and it came up at £1450. Considering there 7 insurance groups apart seems quite reasonable.
