#1: Steering probs Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:41 am ---- Ive just come back from a long drive, at the start my steering wheel was 100% straight, (hold it level and the car drives straight)
after 60 miles the steering wheel now has to be held at an angle to keep the car straight!
why could this be?
1. is the tracking likely to have slipped out by a lot? why would this happen? i didnt hit anything or push the car to its limits.
2. a problem with the steering rack, could it jump a tooth?? (eeek!?)
3. the actual steering wheels moved? (doubt it)
4. tyre pressures? im pretty sure they are all ok, but will check now.

Tyre pressures sould be checked / adjusted when the tyres are COLD!
Leave them till the morning

#5: Re: Steering probs Author: panason1c, Location: SomersetPosted: Sat Apr 23, 2011 8:44 am ---- The tracking cannot 'go out' without a reason for it to do so, you either have to hit something, (ie....a curb) causing a component to bend, or for wear to develop in the suspension/steering system such as a lower ball joint or track rod end. Adjusting the tracking without first examining all the steering gear and rectifying any faults will result in poor handling and uneven tyre wear. The usual suspects for the steering wheel to be off-centre when driving straight are commonly worn track-rod-ends and/or worn lower suspension arm ball joints.

no, droplinks and suspension topmounts do.
track rod ends help keep the steering wheel straight inline with the wheels
