#1: 1.6 8v to 1.6 16v Author: Jack4273, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:52 am ---- Hey everyone hope your all out in the sun like i am haha, anyway back to the subject my cars a 1.6 8v but the gearbox has finally gone and i need a new engine but i was going to put another 1.6 in there but the 16v because they have alot more potencial than the 8v i think, but my main question is will i encounter any problems or is it just a straight swap? What will i need from the donor car?
Any advice or queries would help me alot

The 16v is plexed, so if yours is non-plexed you'll have to rewire the car too
EDIT: so that means airbags, abs, alarm, etc
EDIT again: Unless you get a unlocked ECU, then you can just drop the engine and ecu in

Ahh right, I was just going off the ECU that was listed for that engine and its has CAN BUS listed which wouldn't be on non-plexed.
But saying that it does say 2000-09
Was the ECU that threw me

plexing was introduced in 2001

ECU needs to be for the 1.6 16v engine, but you'll still need the BSI and transponder. Unless you get a unlocked ECU
