Removal of High Level Brake light
-> 206 Problems

#1: Removal of High Level Brake light Author: StevieB, Location: Heathrow PostPosted: Mon Apr 18, 2011 9:40 am

Continuing to fettle our 2002 206 after recent purchase.
Noticed that several lights have failed in the high level brake light but I cant get at the bulbs.
There are two bolts that go through to the inner side of the tailgate but after removing the nuts I still cant budge the light unit. It might be that the seal has stuck to the paintwork. I don want to force it off so could someone say if thats normal and whats the trick to get it off?
Thanks

Just give them a little tap. Smile If the two nuts are off it will come. Smile

Doesn't it have a plastic clip either side of the unit?

Like where you need to push them both in to be able to pull out?

Screws the nuts back on slightly to protect the threads then a few gentle taps on each nut with a small hammer will free it.

Its the rubber on the back of the brake light stuck to the inside of the tailgate that is stopping it being removed easily Wink

Just don't do what someone else did and try and unscrew the small screw on the front of it Laughing

Ok, thanks.
Sounds right so I'll give it a tap with the nuts on the end of the threads.
Cheers!

Mine was a nightmare to get off. Just requires a bit of brute force and swearing

Well...have now tried lots of swearing and using a hammer on the bolts which was awkward as there isnt much room to get a swing at the bolt heads.
I tried using a metal bar and striking it with the hammer while one end was on the bolts but this light is not letting go. Probably needs the tailgate removed to get a good swing at them.
I might figure out a way of exerting pressure evenly on the two bolts perhaps with a bar and bolt "jack" gadget.
Otherwise It might be best for me to get a replacement light ready and probably destoy the original while getting it off.
Have seen lots of LED versions on EBay, are these a direct swap?
