#1: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 3:55 pm ---- i think it's very appropriate to delve into the history of this car. So i had a look to see what Tony (previous owner) had all done to it in more detail.
It's about time a proper thread was started for this car!
I can't remember when Tony bought the car...
In March 2008 someone ****ted the driver's door with a trampoline leg, this was soon fixed
In June 2008 the Janspeed was fitted and the car had a good clean:
A fuzzy but memorable picture of the car for me This is a before picture, the after's aren't clear enough so you can't really see it being any cleaner than it is here
Coilovers were fitted in June 2008 and it almost makes me want to go down the coilover route again, it looks great!
Before:
After:
Some tool called Tony found the chav within and fitted these bad boys
This is an idea which i have tinkered with as well, but i might give it a miss even though i have an ecosse badgeless grille in my lock-up!
It was then decided that the 180 alloys were missed and the car benifitted from a full detail back in August 2008.
I adore the above pictures - the car looks great and reminds me that i need to buy poorboys black hole glaze...
I dont even remember these wheels. What the F... they are pants I'm glad they were changed before my ownership that's for sure!
Between times (cant be bothered seeing when just because of the contraversy of the threads) it had a GSR induction kit and has has a red dot remap.
No idea when the rear parking sensors were fitted, but! I like!
I presume the eibach pro kit dampers and sportline springs were fitted in late 2008 too?
To what we all know and i fell in love with.
So! I bought the car in March 2009 after deciding that it was a great idea to travel from Fife to Kent to get the car at an unbeatable price with a caring owner and 14,800 on the clock. jawesome.
So Bonson. Graham and myself set off at ridiculous AM:
Stopped off around Manchester to meet SAB206 and bullseyeant. So we took a few pics of Bonson and Graham's cars.
Stopped off at the birmingham meeting that day on the way back up
Woke up the next morning at my dad's house and got picture happy!
Unfortunately the car was only driven now and then by my dad to keep it ticking over until i could afford the insurance on the 180 and until i sold the 1.1
I then debadged the boot lid And the rear lights were sold to ajsuk as i had already bought a nice new set of lights for the 1.1 less than a week to thinking about buying a new car
Gave the rest of the car a good polish at the same time, results of debadging can be seen below.
My dad then drove the car to the scottish modified car show for me, so i had 2 cars there Prior to this event, i polished the manifold up.
I then sold Gabby in late July and swapped all the lights and audio over.
Lights:
Black mask valeo's.
Smoked crystal rear lights
Smoked side repeaters
Then in August I was finally taxed and insured. So i went and took some pictures with an awful camera just as it was getting dark. Between times some psooc stickers were put on the rear side windows and on the rear screen too.
In September i took the car to ecosse's RR's after the contraversies of all the red dot/ rs tuning hoo haa arguments over on 206info. So that's it been on 3 different RR's with 3 or 4 different results.
Here's the original graph from Red Dot when the map and induction kit was first done:
That's 183bhp and 151 lb/ft of torque. I've not really got much else to say other than i was chuffed that it was over 180bhp and the graph appears to be very smooth!
You can make up your own minds about which graphs/results you trust without argumentation please!
Since then i've just been enjoying driving it and i've only had to replace the battery in my time of ownership amongst a few electrical faults (perhaps due to the crap battery??) which sorted themselves out.
Plans? None yet really. Just to keep it clean and i might invest in coilovers when i'm bored one day, perhaps a change of wheels and i really want to paint the underside of the boot and clean the rear axle up. I also fancy painting the calipers up again with the black/silver theme. It looked pretty good but isn't looking as good as it used to.
I will be removing the chrome inserts of the fogs by sanding the chrome away to reveal the black plastic underneath to match the headlights. I also started painting a set of interior bits gloss black but i'm not really fancying them any more...
I don't know what else to do with it...hence I bought the 309 to play with...
I think i've been in denial that I didn't think I wanted vortex's done in black-chrome. So i came to my senses and did a photoshop whilst supposed to be doing uni work...
Before:
After:
The photoshopped wheels are a bit dark. A bit lighter than that would be spot on, a bit like the OZ's on there now i suppose.
This idea was spurred on by a very well priced set of vortex's which were only up the road from my house! So being a wheel hoarder...i was havin them.
Unfortunately they're nankang tyres on them but i just grinded the price down a little I need to get bolts and lockers but they wont be getting fitted or anything for a fair few months.
For now the OZ's are staying and will be back on in the summer time. I've also since decided that i quite like the wheels as they are in silver!
Finally got round to fitting my 180 wheels after getting a hold of bolts and bolt caps for £17 delivered! I also bought a set of mcgard lockers to suit as well
Run into some trouble with the spacers - i didn't realise it was a hex ended bolt that was on them so i had to go and buy one then it got dark n cold and i couldn't be bothered so here's how i arrived to the car this morning. Filthy and with 2 different sets of wheels on
Fitted the wheels, gave the car a quick wash (no wax as you can see! ) and took her for a spin. The tyres aren't quite as bad as i thought. Probably slightly better in the wet than paradas...surprising to me as they're...NANKANGS!! My plan is to wear them down to a near illegal depth before changing them :))
I was gonna sell the OZ's too kinda glad i didn't though, i really do quite like both!
That's all for now!
Cheeeeeeers.

The Lupo wears Yokohama S-Drives, got no complaints about them, hard to unstick them in the dry and decent in the wet too unless driving like a tit, in which case they seem nice and progressive on the limit, not had any hairy moments.
#3: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:12 pm ---- Nah, that was my first impression of them, but i really don't trust the nankangs now after having more experience with them. Lets be fair here though, neither of the tyres are particularly brilliant at this time of year. They suffice for driving about normally though and they will do for now
#4: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Dillon, Location: KentPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:17 pm ---- That's a lot of history B. I think you're right with the date's 2008 ish for most of the bits Tony did
The Dotz alloys weren't that bad in the flesh and where only on it a matter of weeks !
I just like the way you took a great car and with subtle touches have made it your own !! Kiki is a very beautiful example
#5: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:20 pm ---- Aye she has had a lot of plestering done over the past few years! I think the dotz alloys would look nice in motion actually.
Acht it wasn't hard to add my touches really, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it at the time and get the various lights on it! I probably couldn't survive without decent audio these days either!
It's all been good fun. She's now covered a massive 18,450 miles now by the by....
#6: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: t1mmy, Location: ReadingPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:27 pm ---- It looks as good as ever. Which coilovers are you thinking of going for?
#7: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:33 pm ---- have i said that above? lol. I probably won't get them to be honest. I like the ride quality of the eibach set-up at the moment and i like the subtleness of the ride height too. Plus to get that good ride quality back with coilovers i'm looking at £650-800 for a nice set of coilovers and i dont think it's worth it for me really! It's a fairly practical hot hatch as it is but the suspension on it is more than track-capable too which is nice.
#8: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Ross, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:40 pm ---- I loved those Dotz alloys back when Tony had them fitted up, I couldn't stop looking at the pics he put up! I have since widened my horizons to the likes of proper split rims etc though (bit of a wheel snob these days if there is such a thing ), and although I still quite like the design they just look a little weak on it, whereas the Vortex's look chunky and make it look more beefy!
#9: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: ross_180, Location: KirkcaldyPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 6:16 pm ---- The cars looking great! How you finding the suspension setup? I was looking at getting just the springs, but wondering if the dampers would make a good bit of difference. I've got a bit of cash to spend on a few upgrades the now, trying to decide what to get is a nightmare. The alloys will get done anyway, but just down to either the dampers and springs or a new exhaust.
#10: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 6:18 pm ---- Loving the suspension set up. Since you're close by, i could let you ride shotgun so you can feel what it's like for bumps etc if you like? £400+ is a lot to spend on a suspension that you don't really know what it will be like! For such a car as a 180 you should replace shocks AND springs. A spax set-up will be less expensive but the ride quality is pretty hard. That's why some people will pay those extra few pennies for eibach, bilstein etc.

Sounds good to me mate. Would be nice to see how another 180 runs, I've got a few niggles with mine. Hopefully some of them will go on Tuesday, belts and water pump are getting changed.
#12: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:02 am ---- A nice shiny new belt and tensioner will help things anyway I can see if i can help you diagnose any other wee problems! I am quite free most of this week during the day...between jobs is crap
#13: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: ross_180, Location: KirkcaldyPosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:19 am ---- Awesome mate, see if we can get a day sorted out. I unfortunately work during the day, so weeknights or weekends for me Sure there's bound to be some point I can head round when we're both free.
#14: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Austin, Location: TelfordPosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 6:13 am ---- Car looks great brian,
#15: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:38 pm ---- Cheers Austin, gotta hand a lot of the design work to peugeot there though
#16: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: GazRG, Location: Bournemouth/CardiffPosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:56 pm ---- Been an interesting read Bri, loved seeing the car when you drove it back up to Fife!
You've done some great mods to it and really made it your own, whilst keeping it smart and discreet, I definitely like the stuff you've done.
#17: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:59 pm ---- Yeah it was a good day Gaz! Rather memorable, I remember that feeling of turning the wheel for the first time onto the road off Tony's street and going....oh yes, yummy car!
I'm not right in the head when it comes to travelling for cars, Graham's even worse for agreeing to take me there! Defo worth it though! London to scotland was via birmingham back-roads! Southampton was well...just FAR. Soon to be going to North Wales via Coventry too........
#18: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: GazRG, Location: Bournemouth/CardiffPosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 6:05 pm ---- Brian, no two ways around it mate. You're absolutely crazy.
Anyone would think Scotland has a shortage of decent used cars
#19: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Tue Feb 16, 2010 1:04 pm ---- Today I found some spare time to give the OZ's a bit of attention!
One set of minging OZ's
After a clean just with some Autoglym Wheel Cleaner!
And after a coat of Poorboys Wheel Sealant and some cheapo but goodo Car Plan Tyre Shine!
Sorted

#21: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: matty, Location: SwindonPosted: Tue Feb 16, 2010 4:13 pm ---- nice brian, i actually think yours looks better with the oz's on!
#22: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: gti180lover, Location: KentPosted: Tue Feb 16, 2010 4:22 pm ---- great read i do ask myself why i sold it sometimes...
#23: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Tue Feb 16, 2010 5:23 pm ---- Yeah the OZ's are going back on in the summer, just cleaning them whilst I had a spare hour
No idea why you sold it Tony, but cheers
#24: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Thu Mar 18, 2010 2:28 pm ---- I tried connecting up the yellow wire from the back of the head unit from the cigarette lighter so that the H/U switches on when the car does. This didn't work and i blew a fuse in the bsi as there was a wire kicking about behind the head unit which was shorting...strange as the one that was shorting was covered in insulation tape... Anyway, that's all sorted now and my wallet's a little lighter after that experiment So i'm just going to have to live with turning on the h/u with my finger!
I did however manage to sort a few other things out with the car though 2 things were getting on my nerves/were a little unsafe with the original audio install i did:
1. For quickness when i originally installed everything, I had the power lead running up the side of the wing...FIAL.
2. The ipod cable was just put in through the front of the glovebox.
So....to resolve these problems I have:
1. Re-routed it through the bulk head and tidied up the wiring out of sight!
2. I had to remove the cd changer in the glovebox to drill a hole in the plastic in the bulk head next to the loom anyway, so i've just left the cd changer out for now anyway as I don't need it/cant use it/takes up space in the glovebox. There was now plenty space to bring my ipod lead into the glovebox.
Results are as shown below!
Engine bay before (how horrendous was this?!):
And now:
Wires are well tucked away behind the alarm doo-dah jiggery pokery box of tricks.
And the fuse holder is mounted on the back of the battery box at the bottom, there was a handy clip on the back to clip the power cable into as well to keep it neat. The rest of the wire is tucked into another set of wires.
Much better Albeit, the glovebox is a pain to get back on so I'm going to tackle this when it's stopped raining...It's half screwed on at the moment.
It just won't clip in at the top
#25: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 2:10 pm ---- Not really being doing much to this car - just driving it! However i finally decided to go with the times and get an auto dimming mirror
#26: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Hotchy, Location: GlenrothesPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:23 pm ---- Seen this parked up at halfords a we while back, best looking 206 iv seen around our area wished i could love my car as much as you but i just cant
#27: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:26 pm ---- It's not hard to have a 206 that stands out as being nice around Fife though with all the crap ones that go about! Cheers though! I don't know if i've ever seen you about??
#28: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: wagsy206, Location: Coatbridge, LanarkshirePosted: Wed Jul 28, 2010 1:09 am ---- Brian, didn't you swap the wire from pin 4 to pin 6??? on the connector that goes from the headunit and connects to the cars power connector, the yellow wire is in port 4 (I think) which is the bsi connection. stick it in pin 6 and you're ready to rock.
if it's in pin 6 then move it to pin4.
I remember bugawuga putting a how-to up, but couldn't remember if it was the old forum. I did it with mine and I'm sure others have done it as well
#29: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:18 am ---- Yeah i remember the guide. It worked on Graham's car then when he tried it off the top of his head it didn't work. So looking at it with the layout being as below with the earth cable on the bottom row. is it numbered like:
1 | 2 |
3 | 4 |
5 | 6 |
7 | 8 |
Is that the 2 wee wires that arent: ignition live, live and earth? iirc 3 and 7 are usually yellow/red and 8 is earth or something along those lines?!
#30: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: AusScare, Location: Brisbane, AustraliaPosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 4:02 am ---- Where can I get a set of those smoked valeo's?
#31: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Dave, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 4:07 am ---- What are the plans for this car?
#32: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: wagsy206, Location: Coatbridge, LanarkshirePosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 11:55 am ---- I don't think there are many plans for this dave as Brian is focusing more on his 309 Goodwood and miami blue 309 gti.
#33: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 12:39 pm ---- AusScare: Are cars in Australia Right or Left hand drive?? You can't get the ones for right hand drive cars any more (although i THINK i know of one person selling a set) Left hand drive ones seem to be fairly available, but where i do not know apart from ebay.
No plans for this at all Dave, just enjoying it as it is. If anything it would be engine modifications but i couldn't justify the thousands on supercharging it as doing something similar in a 309 but with a gti-6 engine would be much faster and in a better handling car, not to mention that it would cost less to do and that's including the gti-6 engine itself.
As for styling again the money spent euro-ing this would look rather pants in comparison to what's already out there and been done. That white 206 with the reg S*** GUM already has the wheels i wanted so defeats the purpose, not to mention they're heavy, plus slamming the car would end up making it handle like a dog doing a poo.
I must admit though, i still want to put coilovers on it, but at the moment it just sits sooo nice and it does have a well sorted suspension already.
#34: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:38 pm ---- I've actually bought something for this car! I've got some Ultra LED white side lights coming too, but I've got a funny feeling they'll look chacket!
Bought these headlight protectors because I don't fancy footing the bill/trying to find black mask valeo's should the get chipped. Not bad for £23 delivered brand new
#35: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Malteaser-xO, Location: FifePosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:46 pm ---- It's my birthday today, not Kiki's.... Get your prezzie priorities right Brian! Haha
Headlight protectors are a good move though x

#38: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon Dec 20, 2010 4:56 pm ---- I've seen one car and it didn't look too bad. Function over looks to be honest, i'll take them off if i was going to shows/car meetings etc. They just clip on and off.
#39: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 10:57 am ---- They look alright I think! Bargain for protecting the lights - i'll be stress free with the thought of them getting chipped now
Plugs are for the service in a few weeks time, the car's only done 20k, so i'll get a stamp in the book for that. £13 for plugs on trade is awesome
I'm currently waiting on discs and the ferodo premier front pads to arrive. I didn't realise that the price for discs on euro car parts were for 1! So i've decided to go for brembo discs in the end since they're slightly cheaper than ECP and peace of mind that they're brembo's too I suppose. Then i'll fit them when i have a week off between jobs. Badly needing done! Can I trust myself to fit discs n pads...hmmm
Can anyone confirm that the bosch super 4's is number 522 and not 520?? I don't always trust halfords' system. TA!

#48: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Aar_Im_A_Pirate, Location: Northern IrelandPosted: Fri Jan 07, 2011 10:03 am ---- Very pretty car and sits beautifully
how much is the torsion bar adjusted by? and i presume eibach pro kit dampers and sportline springs?
just asking because I want my car to sit as nicely as this. What is the ride like?
#49: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun Jan 09, 2011 10:36 am ---- I think the rear is lowered 8mm and yes, it's pro kit dampers and sportline springs. I've had someone else in the car who also has a 180 and he said it didn't feel that much harder than standard 180 suspension. You do feel bumps if you go over one, but for normal driving about it's not uncomfortable at all.

#52: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Wed Jan 12, 2011 4:06 pm ---- very much so I've tallied up materials and it could be quite expensive so I won't be doing it in a hurry. So far i've spent £38 on a Makita Jig Saw (apparently used once and is £150 in B&Q?!?! Fingers crossed with that one!) £2.50 on tape, £1 on crap sand paper and £3 on fleece
#53: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:35 pm ---- Today I bought the boot carpet for the inner wings and the trim panel that covers the wiper motor for £7.50. Oh how i love u-pull-it!
#54: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Fri May 27, 2011 9:52 am ---- Well the audio thing is out the window for now. I decided I needed to get some new tyres, which is a better priority. AJ's wheels were up for sale so I bought them off him and they came equipped with 2 Pirelli P-zero's and 2 Bridgestone Potenza's! Perfect! New tyres and a new colour it was to be and I'm quite chuffed with the result, the tyres are brilliant, I have the Bridgestone's on the front at the moment.
#55: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: JamieM, Posted: Sun May 29, 2011 4:58 am ---- Looking good Brian! Much better on the stock wheels! 180's look best on them, even if they do reduce the ride quality to bone shattering lol!
#56: Re: The GiT 180 progress thread, aka KiKi Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Sun May 29, 2011 9:20 am ---- Cheers Jamie! I'm actually waiting on the other 2 wheels being powdercoated, so I have silver ones on the other side at the moment and have been running them for a while. Decided after a few years of ownership with OZ's it was time for something different!

These are now on the car but car's dirty so never took any pics and I know...I still need to re-apply the badges
The car is now sporting some Bridgestone Potenza's on the front and Pirelli P-Zero's on the rear...it feels like a totally different car compared to before! Super-chuffed!

I wasn't sure on the line around the plate (got them made for £very little, so couldn't complain) So i might cut along the line too to make them narrower at some point.
