#1: 180 Squeaking Noise Author: MissGTi180, Location: IpswichPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:16 am ---- Me and another memeber on here (Ivor) have the same cars and we now also share the same problem...
When I start mine for a few seconds, maybe a few minutes I get a squeaking noise. Ivor gets his when the cars idle.
It sounds like a belt squeaking or something!?
Anyone know what that is as we haven't got a clue..ha!
Thanks

Either Cambelt or the Aux belt! Whats your mileage? Have you had these changed recently?
#3: Re: 180 Squeaking Noise Author: MissGTi180, Location: IpswichPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:19 am ---- I haven't had cambelt changed no, can't afford it at the moment.
Ivor only had his done recently though.
Whats an aux belt? Soz I'm not very good with engines lol
#4: Re: 180 Squeaking Noise Author: smiddies, Location: BrightonPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:24 am ---- Aux belt is also called an alternator belt, basically it charges the battery and stuff!! (Im not an expert)
The Squeaking noise could be a number of things... Water on the belt, incorrect tightness etc
best to have someone with some knowledge to have a look for you! If its due a cambelt change, dont hesitate to do it! Could lead to £1000's of damage rather then £100's!! Best to shop around for a better price! Change the water pump at the same time! And you could go and have a full service while your there!

Very true but this bodywork has cost me £800.00 and i haven't even found anywhere near that yet so wont be having anything else done to it anytime soon! thanks for advice

Is it worse in damp/wet?
#10: Re: 180 Squeaking Noise Author: MissGTi180, Location: IpswichPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 10:28 am ---- Yes! I think one day it was raining when I left work and it went on a bit longer than it usually does.
