You tried using a lens cleaning disc? ? ?

Maybe when you are driving a dirty lens just cant read the disc correctly.

Also are you trying play your music as a audio CD or as a data type CD as used in most after market CD audio players.

audio CD, will try a cleaner seems to work on legitimate cd's but copies only work sometimes so its not a problem with the formatting, probably the lens - p**sing me off!

The stereo needs two live feeds for it to function you need to find the correct wires with a multi meter and see if the feeds are still there when the engine is running.

Or can you listen to the radio whilst driving? if so ignore what I just said.

Try other CDs or just get a new HU they are so cheap they aren't even worth fixing.

your initial post made me believe that the radio wouldnt turn on when driving.. if it will turn on but not play CD's then the lens is damaged, its not worth getting it repaired, get another stock one from scrappy or ebay or an after market one. it struggles more with copies because they are made differently and more difficult to read.
