#1: Ticking noise, then idle revs drop! Author: sampo85, Location: Farnham, SurreyPosted: Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:08 am ---- Before I get the usual answer, yes I've tried a search, but to no avail.
So, when I am at a stand still, my engine idles just below 1000rpm. Thats fine.
But every four or five seconds I seem to hear a "tick" noise and the revs drop by 50 to 100 revs. Just enough that the gear knob rattles like it does when you stall!
Heres a clip to show you what I mean:
Sound is quite quiet, but on 18 seconds, you can clearly hear the "tick" and see the revs drop.
It also seems to want to stall quite often after just starting up if I come to a stop (like when reversing and turning, or waiting at a junction) and yet my foot is fully depressing the clutch at the time!!
Anyone got any ideas as to what is happening and what could be done about it?

Checked the oil level with the dipstick?
Being the 16 valve version of the 1.4 lump it has the w**ky VVT system fitted as well.
