#1: Permenant live Author: jonnym92, Location: west cumbriaPosted: Sat Apr 23, 2011 4:20 am ---- I have just fitted a new CD player in my quicksilver however it only works when the ignition is on and every time it is powered up everything i changed on the cd last time (bass, treble etc) is forgotton. How would i go about running a cable so that it works without having to turn the car on and so that the radio setting and stuff are remembered.
Note: i have tried swapping the red and yellow cables but no success hence the forum

Constant low level power (yellow) - this is direct from battery and stays live even when your car is off, it allows your headunit to have enough power to keep its memory settings
Ignition feed (red) - When the car is running, the headunit is supplied with more power from ignition to power it for general use.
With many h/u, these two wires dont come set up the right way round for the 206, so your h/u will run off low level power when on, and may cut out when the volume is turned up (as it doesnt have enough power going to it). Also, as the memory feed is coming from ignition, when the car stops running, this feed stops too, and the headunit loses its memory settings. Switching these two wires around fixes the problem. Many new headunits come with connectors that allows you to easily change the wires around.
This is why that red wire is used but both red and yellow needs fuses and needs connecting to h/u
Q) My head unit won't turn on/off with ignition?
A) If your car is Multiplexed.
To elaborate the head unit will 'wake up' and 'shutdown' along side the BSI (Bulti-in system interface).
Therefore when unlocking the car the HU will turn on / display time etc as the unlocking wakes up the BSI to unlock the doors etc and when the BSI shuts off after 3 minutes the headunit will also follow suit. The shutdown of the BSI will be 3 minutes after activating the central locking / alarm / closing drivers door when getting out and locking it.

#5: Re: Permenant live Author: jonnym92, Location: west cumbriaPosted: Sat Apr 23, 2011 4:39 am ---- yeah i have tried both ways but nothing happens. i have had a multimeter on the wires when the car is off and no power is reaching anything at all so i was wondering if i could just run a wire in from somewhere to give it constant power because when you park up its a bit of an inconvenience to keep the car running while playing music

I have the same problem both the switched live, (red)
and the supposedly permanent live (Blue on my car)
They are only live with the ignition on.
Anyone know why this is, and how to correct it other than picking up another live wire.
As I would rather correct the fault if it is a fault.

Only works on NON plexed 206's

Or just wire it in correctly / use the Peugeot ISO adaptor so you dont have to bodge

I haven't checked the fuses as i presumed that it wouldn't go live with the ignition switched on if the fuse had blown.

2000 grande tourisme, deffo no permanent live behind the radio, took one from the hazard switch as suggested, it now turns on and off with ignition and remembers where it was.
