The thurst bearing in my clutch had gone i own a 2.0 Hdi Turbo 2002 model 206.
Whilst stripping everything down one afternoon i called it a day after taking the starter motor off. then realised the windows were still down.. DOH!
So with a friend i reconnected the battery to wind them up and the startmotor wires were arking off the engine block... Ooops i thought well sort that when we build it back up.
Sure enough we came back to this point turned the key and got nothing but the coolant fan running as if it was the starter motor?
Puzzled completely by this as i know very very little about electrics i checked countless times all the connections they are all good, earth strap is solid on the chassis all fuses are fine. i even took starter motor back and got it tested and thats all fine.
At this point i was lost my other friend who is a sparky checked all connections and found with his multi meter no power was getting to the starter motor from the battery when i turned the key but couldnt figure out why?
Now everytime i turn the key to start it the coolant fan wizzes round and i release the key i get a ticking noise from the ECU as if its trying to reset itself so again my sparky friend tried to find a way of reseting it by pushing a button on the inside of the ECU control panel.
And now i turn the key its even worse im at a complete loss i have no idea what to do next. Can anyone offer some advice or even suggest what to do next.

You cant just disconnect / reconnect battery leads of a multiplexed 206 like this!
Your dealing with a software driven computer brain that controls ALL the cars electrical systems over a digital CAN VAN network!
Shut the BSI down correctly, check the BM34 fuse box & also the BSI fuse box & cross your fingers its a blown fuse.
If you have fried the BSI unit then its break the vaseline out & bend over time

If this fails then apart from the vaseline what else needs to be done?

Turn the plastic screw with a coin then lift up / unclip the flap.

Just disconnect the battery like it says in the guide.
