#1: Anti Pollution Fault/ Unblock Diesel Filter Queries Author: Squeaker, Location: En Route to the Premiership 2012/13 PostPosted: Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:26 am

I know the warning text of 'Anti Pollution Fault' can and does cover many different things. A number of sensors etc.

I'm just wondering as a mechanic told me, but i'm not sure whether to believe him or not, that the warning 'Unblock Diesel Filter' doesn't necessarily mean its the FAP, i know i'm about to get the usual stock Faptastic replies Shocked But surely there's more to it that just that?

So does that warning cover many different things or is it quite specific? Just when i get it, the display then says ' Automatic Wiping Activated' then 'Unblock Diesel Filter' then 'Automatic Wiping Activated' i would of thought it would stick to the filter message? Also it seems to be doing a regen when it says it.

Cheers

When you have a new warning message pop up it will also scroll though any other active warning messages at the same time.

You can have several different info messages pop up on the mfd one after the other.

*Bump*

So does the Unblock Diesel Filter warning message cover sensors etc on way to the fap or is it specific to the fap?

Its gonna be a FAP system problem.

Needs scanning to get the exact error codes to see what the ecu has flagged up.

Its EOBD so scanning it for wont really be a problem.

Its either low on juice, then sensor on the cap has gone, needs a regen, or the thing is f****d

And f*** off before you even start

Its not the fuel, when it gets low, i either fill it or throw in over 3/4 of a tank.

I'm starting to think it does it when its actually doing a regen. I had a run to Cleggy over the weekend, drove 30-40 miles town driving since i got back and i got the warning just before pulling up, when i got out, you hear the noises associated with it doing a regen.

Is there a way of making it doing a regen? Dont wanna drive down the A1 for 45 mins, only for it to do it when i nip to the shop.

Or may just have to get it scanned at some point.

check the tank under the car near the passengers rear wheel

Well, had mine scanned tonight and it aint lookin' pretty Laughing

Fast idle MB reading for a clear FAP should be approx 30MB - mine was not a kick in the a**e off 300MB! Shocked

It's that blocked it can't be regenerated using PPS - so time to crack out the ramps, a steam cleaner and a Saturday afternoon Laughing

Also got an open circuit on the fuel cap, so no fluid is being injected into the FAP which aint helping Sad

Get the codes scanned ASAP would be my advice! And don't booted the a**e off the car until you do and it's all sorted.

Might sound daft, but no idea what that relates to Shocked

Don't boot it anymore anyway, trying to keep it to 50+mpg Smile

I'll have a ring round local garages trying to get it scanned in next few days. I gather going price is £20?

MB = millibars

Didn't cost me anything for scanning, friendly RTC Master Tech did it for free Smile

Gonna get Lee to do mine, Lee will you be able to tell me that too?

I think he should be able to if he's using PPS - there is a very recent, new release of dealer diag software but my car was read using PPS.

I see your 300 and raise ya 348mb Shocked

Codes that came up on mine were:

P1351
P0420.

What were the ones on yours G? Also do you or your mate now how to force a regen with the software?

I'm thinking the glow plug failure has stopped it regenerating for however how long, does that sound feasible?

Oh and cheers for the scan Lee Smile Got the message back before i even got off Lidget Lane Laughing

Bloody hell Shocked Laughing

What do the codes actually read as?

I had 'open fuel cap circuit' - this meaning the sensor that injects the cerine fluid into the fuel tank is knackered. No cerine = no regeneration!

Cannae mind what the other was but I was told not to worry about it.

Nah regeneration on mine was impossible. As there's no cerine mixing with the diesel the soot in the DPF isn't getting burned off. That and my DPF is too far gone now to allow regeneration.

Tis getting steam cleaned out on Friday, will need to get a new fuel cap sensor ordered up too.

P1351 Is Post/Pre heating relay circuit, or failed glow plugs/relay. Hope its the plugs and not the relay, just ordered a set of 4 new NGK glow plugs.

P0420 Is that the FAP is overloaded.

But in the regen process, the glow plugs are turned on and extra fuel is thrown into the engine, to get it hot enough to burn the soot off.

I'm hoping when i put the new glow plugs in, it does a proper regen.

They are the same in the 1.4 so again i hope i can use Haynes on the 1.4 as a guide. because the 1.6 isnt in the Haynes.......

You can fit new glow plugs, but with those MB readings I doubt the DPF will regenerate as it's too blocked. Mine wasn't for happening and it was less blocked than yours!
