Had my ear right by the filter and revved and sounds just like the airbox did.

Get a video clip of it up on youtube. We can then tell you if what sound it emits is normal or not.

weird i tried an open cone on my 180 briefly and it was horrificly loud

You do know you have to hit the throttle hard to get it to make a sound

Slow acceleration wont make any noise

An open cone will be louder than a closed one.

Look at the pics and its abit obvious. there's a split in the plastic that attaches to the throttle body.
Its sucking air thru that instead of thru the filter.

Also it's only really noticeable when you're driving, you won't get the full effect whilst revving stationary.
