Hubby's van gone into garage for a few days, and they've given him a courtesy car - a 1.3 Proton, v reg. Quite a novelty having to remember to use petrol as we've both had diesel cars for years Confused .

I do very short trips - school run about 2 miles each way, and my work about 3 miles away. He has a 15 miles each way journey to work, and has asked to take my 206 SW, 2.0HDi, and me to use the Proton, as over a longer run, the 206 is cheaper than the 1.3 petrol. I just think he wants my comfortable 206, and leave me with the crappy Proton - it doesn't even have a radio in it Sad .

Anyway, views please on the comparative fuel economies would be welcome Wink

if the diesels got DPF you shouldn't really be driving it short journeys anyway to which the proton would be cheaper because that s**t aint cheap to replace.

there's too many variables to consider, the 2mile traffic run have stop and start traffic?, village roads?, whats the speed limit etc etc.

That said, 1.3 would get, at a rough guess, 35-42mpg depending on congestion and speed. The diesel would get 50+. so logic would suggest the diesel is used for the long journeys as it will save you money

Thanks for replies. My journey is 2 miles with no stops until I get to school, and straight back again - built up area, 30 mph limit. His journey is about 12 miles on dual carriage way, and rest on A/B roads, with very little congestion or stop start, so I guess he is probably right Rolling Eyes

For the mileage fuel savings in whichever car aren't going to be worth thinking about. Pile the miles on the Proton as it's not yours!
