I then gave the chrome trim pieces a couple of layers of wax and put them on. I put loads of wax on the ends! Hopefully if i keep doing this i'll they'll never corrode again

#127: Re: Project 309 GTi Goodwood Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon May 09, 2011 1:38 pm ---- Well, show season's less than a month away now so decided i need to get my a**e in gear! The buffalo leather restorer stuff I bought was absolutely rubbish so I resorted to a technique i've used in the past...shoe polish! So step one was to go down to timpsons and I bought some of their dark grey leather restorer. This did an alright job but still wasn't dark enough and you could still see the outside lines of the broken areas of leather.
So i resorted to the good ol' Kiwi shoe polish, i chose black this time though and put it over the dark grey...this was spot on! Just to be sure, i buffed it, re-applied the Timpson's leather restorer followed by a light skim of kiwi stuff again.

And here are the results on the bolster:
Muchos chuffed!

#129: Re: Project 309 GTi Goodwood Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon May 09, 2011 1:45 pm ---- Cheers pal haha! I have no idea why people say that. I did it on my old 1.1 on the gti 138 seats as well and had zero stains Just got a buff it goooood
#130: Re: Project 309 GTi Goodwood Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Mon May 09, 2011 1:59 pm ---- Fair play dude! I would have expected you would get some particles catching on your clothing but if it works for you then it's all good
I've used Turtle Wax Platinum series and AG Leather Restorer before, both with great results. My preference would be to the Turtle Wax shiz though, nice glossy finish!
#131: Re: Project 309 GTi Goodwood Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon May 09, 2011 2:03 pm ---- I do remember worrying about it before on the old car but all is a-ok. After a while, the leather really does absorb the polish. I'm definitely needing to get some good leather cream
#132: Re: Project 309 GTi Goodwood Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Fri May 13, 2011 4:42 pm ---- Worst sneak peak picture of all time.
I actually wanted you all to meet my new pal, Sammy the spider, who looks as if he's just eaten a horse.
