Author: scottsgti, Location: ramsgatePosted: Fri Apr 29, 2011 2:18 pm ---- just changed my oil and oil filter and was thinkin of buying new gearbox oil and changing that this weekend. but i've heard that you're not supposed to change it,or atleast, its not recommended. because u could loosen up crud and knock it in to the gearbox or summing along them lines.
can anyone enlighten me to what i should do? and what the consequences, if any, are if i were to change it.

Never thought of buying the oil from the parts desk, do pug sell the little alloy washers/gaskets too?
I would have thought that even if they did sell consumables as well as parts they would be massively over priced. Under 15 quid is a bargain tho.

Parts dept is hit and miss really some things are really quite cheap while others are overprice. i know what you mean tho about the oil 1L at halfords is like £10, so 2L @ £13.54 is great. Just give the how to a read, i did mine within 30mins

Author: Davels, Location: NorfolkPosted: Sun May 01, 2011 5:44 am ---- Well i was all set to give this a go, I had all the up on stands all the arch liners off(was replacing hog clips as the liners flapped around) Look around and couldn't see anything familiar with the guide above. I eventually found a bolt with a tipex'd T on which I assumed was the drain plug(T for transmission) but the was no fill hole. I have an early 206 2.0 GTi engine on my car so home come the gear box is different?
Any ideas on how i would refill the box after draining? I had a look around but didn't know what i was looking for The damn guide pics are too small lol.
Also I asked for the washers from the dealer. One dealer said they don't stock them so i went to my other local dealer and they didn't either. The guy was confused as to why they wouldn't stock them as they obviously change transmission oil on pugs as they are a garage. He checked with one of his mechanics who said the are not crushable washers they are copper and can be reused. Trouble is the one i found on the what i think was a drain plug very much looked like an alloy one.
Does anyone know where I can get the right washers without going to the main dealer as I think they are talking out of the *rse.

the drain plug is at the bottom of the gearbox, jack-up the car and look under it, near to the CV joint/ drive shaft.

I got two copper pug ones from halfords but I think they are for the oil sump all the silver/alloy ones Edward pic shows match whats on my filler plug.

Halfords do an alloy oil sump plug gasket for a Honda engine that looks the same can i just use a couple of these?
