when going into 3rd sometimes 4th the gears grinde drives fine but rather annoying!!!
anyone got any ideas what it could be??
the car is a 51 plate gti

could be the gearbox on its way out...

seems to drive fine when in gears so don"t think it is gear box (i hope)

I get a horrible crunch if I'm high in the revs changing from first, thats why I'm planning on changing my gearbox oil, to hopefully alleviate the problem for a while.
never have a problem changing down because rev matching is second nature after my blip down VTEC days
#7: Re: grinding gears Author: cosmicdance, Location: Leeds, UKPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 1:09 am ---- My gears used to grind from 3rd to 4th when I had a Peugeot 106 and I cured it by simply changing the gearbox oil.
The oil doesn't last forever so becomes ineffective after the recommended service interval change - not sure exactly how many miles off hand.
It's a very cheap fix and even if it isn't this that's the problem it's always good to have fresh oil to prolong the gearbox life.
Very easy to change as well and there are tutorials on this site.
My Peugeot 206 has never crunched gears when changing but I put new oil in to prevent it doing so when I bought it.
