#1: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 4:18 am ---- Alright people,
Was going to flush out the radiator today and fill her back up. Went to open the drain screw on the radiator and there isn't the "tap" :/
Was just going to take the bottom pipe off, but surely that's going to prevent me from bleeding it

Gracias

#3: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 4:40 am ---- I think Bon did a 'how-to' Lee - think you just pull off the bottom hose and drain the radiator.

#6: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: sonicscrewdriver, Location: swanseaPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 5:13 am ---- you have to take off the bottom pipe......i had to repaire a hole in my rad friday, i thought someone nicked my tap untill i noticed it was a blank......when you refill it tho you gotta take of the dust cap on the hose going into the bulkhead to bleed it...
#7: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Bigbenj_08, Location: CardiffPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 5:33 am ---- Yeah I think I read in a guide somewhere on here... it mentioned to loosen the bottom hose but not remove it as it can be a PITA to get back on apparently.
#8: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon May 02, 2011 5:36 am ---- Strange that there is no drain plug. With the drain plug it's easy to keep it all tidy and controlled then draining it but without it the only option is to remove the hose and watch 5 litre of coolant spill everywhere. Keep the reservoir cap on and it will come out slower.
#9: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 8:12 am ---- Yeah I've seen the guide, was just wondering if there was a "trick" to emptying it without getting a face full of coolant. I'm already covered in oil, brake fluid and diesel

Keep your mouth shut, make sure the coolant isnt to hot & have a free shower as it drains out
Try not to swallow any

It's probably never been changed so it will be rusty as hell
#12: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 8:48 am ---- Mine doesnt have a plug either, could be non genuine maybe?
#13: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 8:52 am ---- Possibly
Looks like its never been changed tho because all the bolts and nuts are mega rusty

#18: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: dumdum0910, Location: letchworthPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 3:13 pm ---- same rad as mine... you dont even need to undo the bleed screw. just fill up the coolant bottle and let it warm up with the cap off the bottle and top up as needed.
#19: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 4:51 pm ---- If you're changing the coolant, course you need to open the bleed screws to let the air out of it.
Think of you radiators at home, you bleed them...dont you
#20: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: dumdum0910, Location: letchworthPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 4:58 pm ---- i did change the coolant . the system bleed its self . once the thermostate had opened. and with the cap off the coolant bottle air is able to escape. havent had any problems yet

#22: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: qwert, Location: ukPosted: Wed May 04, 2011 5:38 am ---- hi. I am hoping to do this on my 206 SW 2 litre TD this weekend. So would i just remove the bottom pipe, let all the water run out. Then fill it back up, leave the cap off the water tank, then start the car and let it get hot and it would bleed itself?
Thank you
#23: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Wed May 04, 2011 11:05 am ---- If you could rely on the system self bleeding do you think they would have still fitted bleed screws?
You can bleed most of the system without even switching the engine on.
#24: Re: How do I bleed this - radiator Author: gixxerkev, Location: wiltshirePosted: Wed May 04, 2011 12:09 pm ---- The system has to be bled as the heater pipes and matrix are a bit higher or the same level than the resevoir, bubbles dont go downhill !!! basic physics.
