not a good idea when you havnt got a cage the difference between being able to bend the top of your body over a bit with belts and not with harnesses could be the difference between breaking your neck or not in an accident
id personally never fit harnesses without a cage or at least a half roll hoop

To be legal, you need to have a red tinted bulb in a clear fog, just to make sure you aren't getting a mirror tinted or clear one.

Just got to wait till one comes up

- New front bumper ( not sport, non sport, gt or chavy )
- Lowered the rear a little, more to go down IMO
- Bump stops removed
- Removed more wiring
- Replacing pads with EBC red stuff front and back
- Replaced drop links, top mounts and track rod ends
- Changed sparks, oil and oil filter

Forget the Redstuff, Yellowstuff, Bluestuff.
If it's going for Fast Road use and Heavy Track use, then DS3000's are the pad you want. They eat discs, but they'll withstand 2, 8min 50secs, 12.9mile laps of the Nurburgring without fading, along with numerous laps around Silverstone, Castle Coombe etc etc.

#65: Re: Meet Tifany, The Track Shl*g Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Sep 20, 2011 4:02 pm ---- Honestly, if it's being stripped, the GTi front and rear brakes are way more than up to it, the common misconception is that the bigger the better, when a decent disc and pad (for instance a carbon lorraine 5+) will often perform better than a 'big brake' kit with terrible pads.

it doesnt matter about the colour of the lense or bulb! aslong as red light it emitted from the rear it will pass. so clear lense and red bulb=pass, clear bulb and red lense=pass, clear lense and led's=pass aslong as red light is emitted!

This.
I pay about £130 +VAT for DS3000 (Brembo Fitment for 330mm disc iirc)

But a better brake setup with better pads will out perform a standard set of calipers
I know that they will be substantial for the time being, but with the added weight of a V6 i would prefer a slightly bigger surface area covered on a slightly larger disc
#69: Re: Meet Tifany, The Track Shl*g Author: Ape, Location: Clipping the Apex!Posted: Wed Sep 21, 2011 8:54 am ---- In that case, a decent set of 4pots, on a reasonable size disc (i.e so you can still get 15's / 16's on, which keeps the weight of the wheels and brakes down too), is better than going for a single piston caliper with bigger dinner plates.

With a standard setup you will have the same 'stopping force' with good discs and pads as you will with the biggest brakes you can find, because when you actually get good discs and pads, the next link is how good the tyres are, and there is a limit to that...
If you stamp your foot to the floor, and the wheels lock up, then just before that is your best braking force.
The test will come with how long the standard brakes can cope with the heat produced, which with a decent setup and some fresh fluid, should be quite a while.
I wouldn't suggest throwing on massive brakes at the front just because you've been told it's the best thing to do, it may seriously throw the balance of the car off. Better to experiment with the standard setup first to find the best ratio of front to rear braking force. If you're finding the front is locking up before the rear, put harsher pads on the rear, for instance.
#71: Re: Meet Tifany, The Track Shl*g Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Thu Sep 22, 2011 12:23 pm ---- Thanks for the advice bud
But i will be replacing the lines with stainless, brake bias valve and filling with dot 5.1, to have adjustment and a slightly better boiling point
The tyres im unsure what go with, as im yet to have a set of wheels
Being a track day i wont be out for long, so fading wont occur (hopefully) but if i need to replace them every 4 events or so. So be it, they are cheap as bud
#72: Re: Meet Tifany, The Track Shl*g Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Thu Sep 22, 2011 12:34 pm ---- toyo poxy...... decent pads on decent quality discs, if you can lock the brakes you dont need to upgrade. If you wanted to go for Brembo conversion and 180 discs then you will need to consider the idea of over-braking.... the bias valve will help you spread the load a little. Get a little more effort on the rear will help you in general. "lift off oversteer".... a lovely animal with rear bias

It will look nicer when i make a splitter that covers under the engine to bring the airflow to the under floor (may help may not)
Then once from the floor to a diffuser at the back that covers the rear axle and boot floor/spare wheel whole

It should do, well Renault Sport thinks so,
My 197 has Front splitter and diffuser, and Rear diffuser

That before or after ive considered a turbo conversion on the track car?
V6 turbo?
#88: Re: PG Tips Track Slag Tiffany Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:33 pm ---- Depends what time frame you are talking about, I would probably have scrapped it by then
V6 turbo would be mad.. 300bhp easy?
Need to finish the current conversion first though

I have a bit of an engine building bug, and i would look for more 400 to 500, but it would be a first would it not?
Pretty simple when you think about it, strip it down, new rings, new seals, stronger rods if available if not just a decomp plate and run it on a standalone ECU.
Less wiring and a lot more fun
#90: Re: PG Tips Track Slag Tiffany Author: Nic_206, Location: cleaning the carPosted: Wed Aug 01, 2012 4:18 pm ---- some one told me you the standard v6 internals can with stand upto 300bhp and there was a bloke that did a remote turbo to his v6 406 and it sounded epic unsure of the power it kicked out though if you was putting say 450 bhp in im guessing it would be 4wd mate?

I have enough knowledge i just dont have the funding behind me
#94: Re: PG Tips Track Slag Tiffany Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2012 2:42 pm ---- When stripping and rebuilding it's not massively complex if you know what you are doing, just get a forged bottom end and as long as you are careful with the boost you can have a play around without worrying too much.
Just making it reliable is the hardest part

I know that one all to well! Mines going to make me bankrupt never mind when it starts drinking fuel and eating tyres

Saying that though, what makes a car reliable? It cant be un reliable till you know what areas are weak on the engine
And whats the issue in blowing a few motors to make one succesful one?

Well I'd take it easy and see where it can be improved, but if going all out then blowing it up is your way of the learning curve then why not

well i agree with addaz in this case

Well i plan to have it running and driveable by this weekend
Engine, wiring loom and control units are in and fitted/seethed, so not much left to do tbh!
The pink is really dull in the pics, its a hell of a lot brighter in reality! But yes the other pug is taking my funding this year, air ride should be on its way in the coming weeks
#103: Re: PG Tips Track Slag Tiffany Author: Vexs, Location: LondonPosted: Tue Nov 25, 2014 5:17 pm ---- Lucky guy having a garage at your disposal to get things done that quick! I've seen some of the older pics with pink the wheels so I can imagine it does look good, any plans for body colour yet or is that a surprise for now?
Looking forward to seeing that thing on bags though, least it'll make it a lot more practical for travelling to and from shows and save your arches from endless repairs
